Back in April I snapped this photo at a strip mall in Tempe, near Broadway & Mill Ave:

"PENIS MAN" crudely spray painted onto blank store signage in a mostly abandoned strip mall in Tempe, AZ

Didn't think too much about it after that, but I'm glad his handiwork was intriguing and well-known enough that that I can have some closure.

Given the topic, what was so crude you had to censor the rightmost sign?

Damn dude that’s like his soulmate

That's funky. I love the second one basically asking if they got it right.

It always bothers me so much how someone who "allegedly" committed a crime can have his photo and full name published in the newspaper in the US.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 26 points 3 days ago

Yep. Horrifying. That's some sort of mob justice right there, IMO. Who still needs a trial after that, and if you're found innocent it's up to you to sue the newspaper for defamation. Or the police department, good luck with that.

Don't tempt me

It is not clear yet exactly how detectives traced Ballengee down before making the arrest

Jesus Christ it's not that complicated, you just find the man with the penis

[–] itztalal 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Let me guess, they tracked his phone's GPS.

[–] brotundspiele@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago

Much simpler: They looked into his passport to see that he's a man and then they looked into his pants...

You laugh now, but it's expected in phase 7 of the MCU.

Can’t wait for ”Penis Man & The Vag: Creampiemania”

The people who get angry over graffiti are so weird. I feel like being in a city with no graffiti anywhere would feel really weird and unsettling

I stayed in downtown Denver and right across the street from my hotel where I'd go to catch the bus somebody wrote in sharpie on an electrical box

MY YAMMY IS IN FLORIDE DUH

It was one of the highlights of my trip and I hope it's still there if I ever make it there again

Edit: found a picture

I go either way since graffiti can range between beautiful works of art and some douchebag tagging his local 'crew' name on my neighbors fence.

This one is amusing and definitely gets a pass from me though.

[–] Godort@lemmy.ca 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Graffiti should basically always be done on corporate or city property. Anyone tagging personal property is a dick.

[–] sqgl@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Anyone tagging personal property is a ~~dick~~ penis man

[–] invertedspear@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If it’s artistic, sure. Even if it said “penis man” in an artful way. But this is as close to art as a adult still drawing stick figures. It’s almost embarrassing we don’t have better vandals in the neighborhood.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Oh, so a urinal is art, but Penis Man isn't? So plebian. Scoff! I scoff at thee!

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

In some respects the art is in the act itself, in the rebellion, in defiance, in the declaration that "I was here." Even something as simple as a tag scrawled on a wall that seems illegible to the uninitiated but actually contains complex letterforms like Philly's wickets, or even the simplicity from the great Cornbread himself.

In some ways Penis Man here is more of an artist IMO than anyone who only paints legally, even Sofles level murals.

And he went back over the buff too, props to Penis Man.

It’s a weird thing I see some amazing graffiti here and there. My city actually pays for and has a competition for it…….. but like 99% of it it’s gang tags and neo Nazi’s sadly

[–] turbowafflz@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Interesting, in my area almost all of the graffiti that isn't just random art or names is things like trans flags, acab, free palestine, etc. I don't think I've seen any nazi stuff I recognized

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Were I God Emperor of New Jersey, I'm setting aside art money to have graffiti artists liven the place up a bit. A lot? Go wild at the Atlantic City Racetrack maybe.

[–] PolydoreSmith@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

God Emperor of New Jersey is the Dune spinoff I never knew I needed!

[–] i_dont_want_to@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)
