/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I was actually picturing one of these for the MedBed:

It might explain why they're all evil pricks. Plus RFK, jr already has extra worms in his anatomy so...

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 9 points 1 day ago

Or the Elysium beds used to regularly cure anything, but only available to the ultra-wealthy. Oh, wait, we already have a large part of that now, at least the restrictions part.

MedBed gold Trump Edition

This is what immediately went through my head:

Donald Trump is no stranger to outlandish conspiracies or strange social media posts. But, by any measure, his post on Saturday night was particularly bizarre. The president posted (and later removed) a clip on Truth Social of a Fox News segment with Lara Trump detailing the White House’s announcement of the world’s first MedBed hospital and a national MedBed card system (two things that very much do not exist). There was no additional context, no text to explain things. Confusing matters more, the video appears to be completely AI generated, including Trump himself discussing the program in the Oval Office. (Perhaps one of the biggest giveaways being the president’s ability to stay on script.)

wait, so he released fake ai video of himself (quite possibly not having an idea whether what he was looking at had or had not actually happened?) every time you think it can't get any worse, they somehow manage to move the threshold even lower...

He believes everything he sees in video format. He trusts his glowing screens more than his own brain.

TBF, I don't trust his brain at all, either.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 11 hours ago

Yeah because he doesn't know what he's actually said and medbeds seems like the sort of crap he would come up with.

This is because his brain is turning to porridge, not that it was firing on all cylinders before.

He trusts his glowing screens more than his own brain.

Yeah, that sounds like an almost reasonable position for him.

Truly the ultimate narcissist.

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It doesn't even sound like trump

from the article ;)

Yeah but it sounds like what trump thinks he sounds like based on how he hears himself when he was young

[–] CeruleanRuin 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No joke: actual screenshots from Star Trek have been used to promote these medbed scams.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

give me healing chambers and I might be more open to discussions.

One of the progress sliders on the sickbay monitor really did say "health insurance remaining."

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Shades of Gray was such a bad episode it made Pulaski abandon ship.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Which Star Trek coffee table book has the factoid about a display in sickbay during the episode Relics that says a patient has “Health Insurance Remaining”?

[–] data1701d@startrek.website 3 points 1 day ago

I think it was TNG Tech Manual?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (2 children)

What was the story behind that? It’s a good satirical criticism of health care but it doesn’t align with this utopian future where poverty inexplicably no longer exists.

Edit: jeez guys, I was just asking how that made it into the story. You don’t have to get all political.

[–] data1701d@startrek.website 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

I think they just had to put something there, so they threw in a joke. They probably never expected it to be visible or readable.

It’s similar in nature to how the DS9 promenade directory has “Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems” from Buckaroo Bonzai, albeit a more dark-humored example.

In universe, it doesn’t exist, I’d say. It’s just a part of the aesthetic, similar to how some things on TOS would look less hokey in real life.
