You could try 15 FPS and I bet it would look exactly the same, this industry is just rotten. The insatiable search for higher and higher FPS counts is just nonsensical smh

I’d argue that 45fps should be the norm. Anything much higher than 60 and the average person doesn’t gain anything from it. Anything lower is tough for some people to deal with. 45 is a good middle ground, I think.

Unless you make your living playing competitive games, you don’t need 573830575fps.

EDIT: Refined my statement to make more sense. 5am brain didn’t realize it needed to go back to bed before making comments.

I am very confused about your use of the word 'minimum', in combination with the rest of your message

[-] Legend@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Yeah, did op mean maximum or somethin ? But even that wouldn't make sense as they said bare minimum

[-] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 2 points 6 months ago

Yeah, sorry. Early morning brain needed more sleep before making comments. I refined my original comment to make more sense.

Personally I'd agree that 45 is the minimum, but I do feel the difference at higher FPS up to 80-90 or so.

I'd agree that anything above that is only markedly different for eSport athletes and hummingbirds, though 😁

[-] nexussapphire@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Damn I guess I won't max out my 240hz oled.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

Dunno, are you absolutely certain that you're 0% hummingbird?

[-] rugburn@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 6 months ago

My bare maximum is 10fps. I like slide shows

[-] nexussapphire@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Mine is a stable 50. It gets easier as the screen gets smaller though.

[-] nexussapphire@lemm.ee 3 points 6 months ago

I dunno but I really was chasing after that pixel response time. The more accurate the pixel draw and the lower the latency the less of a headache I get from playing games. I'm incredibly happy with my OLED though big upgrade from an IPS.

I thought the va panel looked a little nicer but made me real sick feeling with the pixel overshooting and the trails every time the camera moved. Smooth scrolling text in some cases were really tough too on VA.

Don't feel high FPS to be a wasted effort.
Here, just scrolling through this page, I can feel the difference between 60FPS and 100FPS.

I can scroll much faster while also being able to read it. On the 60FPS monitor, I just prefer to alternate between scrolling and reading.

[-] nexussapphire@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Yeah it's definitely easier to skim text while scrolling. It's a lot less jittery for sure.

[-] ulterno@lemmy.kde.social 1 points 6 months ago

For the above result, you just need 1FPE

[-] refalo@programming.dev 0 points 6 months ago

rotten

But doesn't it typically result in higher motion clarity on LCD?

[-] Ephera@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 months ago

Their comment was tongue-in-cheek, I'm pretty sure.

Yes, higher FPS absolutely results in better motion clarity. In particular, 15 FPS is so low that it's likely to be perceived as individual pictures rather than continuous motion.

[-] Huschke@programming.dev 36 points 6 months ago

This is very misleading. Usually 60 FPS looks worse (especially on consoles and older PCs) since you have to lower settings.

So clearly 30 FPS is superior.

To be fair, Windows is gonna hoover up 4GB of RAM before chrome even has a chance.

144Hz gang!

[-] n3cr0@lemmy.world 17 points 6 months ago

Both images scroll smoother on my phone, since the screen runs at 90 FPS.

[-] hperrin@lemmy.world 14 points 6 months ago

If this were on a cheap Chinese graphics card box, the 30 FPS picture would be blurry.

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 months ago

Well, with how common TAA (temporal anti-aliasing) is, 30fps actually would be more blurry. It'd be reasonably accurate, though misleading.

[-] LaserTurboShark69@sh.itjust.works 13 points 6 months ago

60 is just way too much, I can't even keep up

[-] Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 6 months ago

My brain can't process all these frames

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

You have to flip the pages so fast to get 60fps!

[-] PenisWenisGenius@lemmynsfw.com 8 points 6 months ago

Am I high or does the water look different

[-] RmDebArc_5@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 months ago

Probably both

This gave me a good throaty chuckle. Nice start to my day. Thanks!
