Yeah I think it's pretty wack. If I search doordash then Uber eats will be the first result or if I search Uber eats then doordash will be the first result lol the ads are getting so extreme it pretty much evens out in the end and it's all completely pointless aside from making everything more annoying for the user

I don't think it will make enough of an impact for Alphabet to actually give a shit but I agree they're getting out of control with the ads and I think a handful of people will start looking for alternatives. I recently switched from Google to Kagi and I set up Firefox to redirect all YouTube links to Piped lol I think a lot of people are already trying to find alternatives to Google products due to general enshittification but they're so big I don't really see it hurting them in any significant way. I would love to see something actually compete with YouTube though tbh. I personally try to use non Google alternatives whenever possible these days

I worked in sales at a honda dealership for about six months. On slow days we had to sit there making cold calls and blasting out texts and emails and I remember the first week after training they gave me like 1600 "dormant leads" which were essentially people who were rejected from finance companies the last time they were at the dealership or people who already flipped out about getting all the calls and texts and literally even people who unsubscribed from all communications or were on the national do not call list. Hundreds of previous employees were on the dormant lists too just so the new guys had people to practice on. Car dealerships are so greasy

This line from Uncle John's Band by Grateful Dead is really simple and maybe kinda cheesy but it's given me motivation and kept me in check a few times:

Well the first days are the hardest days, don't you worry anymore. 'Cause when life looks like easy street there is danger at your door

When I used to blog 10+ years ago I had a killer list of WordPress blogs I followed but as time went on I sort of gave up on the whole blogging thing and forgot about most of them. Now that WP is part of the fediverse I'm curious, what are some of your favorites?

Material You/automatic color themes. I have a huge collection of wallpapers I've built up over the years and now I can only use a select few unless I want the entire phone os to be themed in ugly pastel colors like light brown or yellow or puke green. I literally just want an alternative option to pick my own color scheme or at this point I'd even be happy with the standard blue accent for everything instead of basing the entire os theme on random colors from my wallpaper. I also hate the rounded corners though! Especially the way phone displays are all rounded off and it just absolutely wrecks the resolution of everything. Having a camera sensor in the middle of the screen is kinda annoying too

I did the same thing! Sync is REALLY good and has some different features like the swipe to upvote stuff, etc but I just love the UX on boost. 'specially in compact mode. Reminds me of Old Reddit

I just got an offer for another job I applied to because I wasn't making enough money where I'm at. Boss offered me a huge hourly raise and I literally jumped at the opportunity to leave four hours early that very same day lmao

I know some unofficial apps already have it but I like the idea of karma. Like nothing crazy with algorithms but just the summary of all the down/updoots on profiles

I know I'm about five years late to the party but I picked up No Man's Sky on sale a couple weeks ago and I'm having a lot of trouble putting it down! When it first came out I thought it was over hyped and maybe it was back then but I'm obsessed now. Lots of big updates since then
