Impressing that somehow this makes sense in his head.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 76 points 3 months ago

Not really, he has a stereotype of what a Black person acts like, that includes saying the n word.

He can't comprehend there are some people who are both Black and find the word distasteful. So to him if a Black person won't say it, then they're not Black.

It's perfectly logical when looking at it from a racists viewpoint. And if you haven't noticed there's a lot of them these days, it's important to understand how they think, so you can do risk management on what they're trying to do.

Do t just write them off as "evil" and illogical because that makes it harder to fight them. Their logic might not be based on facts or critical thinking but there is a type of logic there. Flawed logic is still logic.

As a nerdy kid with longish hair and few male role models, I really, really looked up to this guy. Hercules, Xena, Kull, and then Andromeda.

He fell off my radar for a while but I was pleasantly entertained when I found him in the Mythica series. I'd always thought well of him.

Eventually I heard about God Is Not Dead and looked into the rest of his more right wing work... Its really heartbreaking when people you respected or even idolized as a kid turn out to be so... gross and just... weird.

Now he again pops up on my radar with stupid shit like this. So sad.

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 58 points 3 months ago

Sucks about Sorbo, but thankfully Lucy Lawless (Xena) is still cool af. If you haven’t seen her in Ash vs Evil Dead, check it out! Good stuff.

[-] SeedyOne@lemm.ee 28 points 3 months ago

That and she often dunks on Sorbo, what a queen.

When I was a kid I had a pillow version of Hulk Hogan. Now he's taking pictures and shaking hands with literal nazis.

"Never meet your heroes" applies to just getting to know who they are from a distance too unfortunately.

I know I say this a lot but that might be the worst thing Kevin Sorbo has tweeted

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Just say it's the worst thing Kevin Sorbo has tweeted ... so far, then it won't feel so bad when you have to keep saying it

Wait, what if she can’t and then a white person says it?

Does that make the white person instantly black? What if people cheer? Does that make the person black?

I have so many questions.

Interesting how it takes literal brain damage to come up with a modern conservative's take.

[-] InternetUser2012@lemmy.today 37 points 3 months ago

Man, and to think there was a point in my life where I watched that show and thought he was great. What a pile of shit. I hope he slips and falls on a nice warm pile of dogshit.

Sorbo has been a reactionary shit going back to his early career, but he didn't really let the freak flag fly until he stopped landing roles in the mid-'00s. He's got a whole line of really cringey anti-Atheism movies (check out the "God's Not Dead" series trails) and he's been dipping his toe into the MAGA sphere since Trump took office.

Dude's totally high on his own supply.

I wonder what the last president to publicly say the nword was. Like, not Obama alone in the oval office giggling to himself, but a president casually dropping it while doing official president things like a speech or meeting.

Edit: so a quick Google told me Obama used it on a podcast once (while president), so I guess the boring answer is indeed Obama

Let's say she's hypothetically not black...

Nothing changes at all. She's still a better candidate. She's not a criminal and she could lie 100 times a day and still be well below Trumps lie quota

Trump is so unbelievably bad I don't think the right wing realises the extent they would need to go to, to discredit her to make Trump seem better.

Stupid small jabs like this change nothing. They could win if they dumped Trump. But they won't...

Trump identifies as a successful businessman which is a bigger lie. Successful criminal yeah

That being said, she's obviously black. Maybe he should stick to lies which aren't visually obvious (like claim she's stupid, which isn't true either)

[-] GeneralVincent@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

But if she is black, they can call her a DEI candidate. And if she's not black, they can call her a liar. Both insults are wrong, but they need to have a consistent message. So that's probably why they're so obsessed with race. That and they're racist.

Serious question. Did Kevin have some sort of brain damaging event or is he just this stupid. I know like everyone thought Busey was just crazy but then it turned out he had a motorcycle accident that fucked him up.

[-] Davel23@fedia.io 28 points 3 months ago

He's gone on record as claiming to have had several strokes during the filming of Hercules. I'm not sure if there's been independent verification.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 17 points 3 months ago

Slorpo you say it and see how people react... What's right wingers obsession with slurs anyways?

[-] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago

Negatively labeling outsiders is key to the overall program and being offensive is a sport since it evokes an emotional reaction. Slurs cover those bases.

[-] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 23 points 3 months ago

Why does Kevin Sorbo rail against being woke and yet is too politically correct to say the N-word?

Honestly there are layers to this stupidity about Kamala's race. For anyone who thinks about it for even a moment, even if she's doing what they say she is, it reflects poorly only on them, not her.

Copy/pasting a prior response to save myself some typing:

EVEN IF their accusations were true, the conditions encouraging someone to hide their race weren’t created by Kamala Harris. They were created by racist bigots. And racist bigots these days tend to gravitate towards one party more than the other. The very clear defense would be "I had to hide my race so that bigots like you would judge me for my accomplishments, not my skin tone." (even though folks like that wouldn't consider Indian to be much of an upgrade)

Literally no one who isn't a bigot cares about this. They are outing themselves and nothing more.

[-] juice702@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

He’s such a washed up loser. Xena was the better show.

[-] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

This will come as a shock for someone who obviously sees all black people as the same, but you do know that there are plenty of blacks who have issues with the word being used in any context, right?

I've never liked Hercules, but man, this guy is ruining Andromeda for me.

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 29 points 3 months ago

Hercules was kinda fun, but there's a reason ... well, several reasons, Xena outshined it spectacularly, both in ratings at the time and in cultural impact years and decades later.

and Lucy Lawless outshines him as a person even today, like the sun outshines a broken flashlight.

[-] DerisionConsulting@lemmy.ca 17 points 3 months ago

I mean, he also ruined Andromeda for me, during the run of Andromeda.

If you notice a sudden shift after season 2, that's because Kevin got the rights and changed the show to be more episodic, and more about his character. It's why the actors of the other main crew start to drop off.
