Oh because he totally respects the court. Turns out he found a hack where you can just ignore what the courts say with no repercussions.

[–] A_S_B@slrpnk.net 2 points 13 hours ago

Exactly. He will keep doing whatever he wants until he gets arrested or impeached, two things that are super hard to happen. He is in this moment very much above the law.

You bet. You'll see the MSM finally report on a protest somewhere blue, some MAGA plants will create a violent disruption, and bam.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 9 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

some MAGA plants will create a violent disruption

You don’t need that, police and ICE are sufficient at creating violence

Those are the same thing.

Congress would need approval for war.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 6 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Oh yeah because we all know how much trump cares about Congress

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

It's not about how much trump cares is about pretty literally everyone else in power.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Truman didn't for the Korean war.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Korea was never formally a war. It's dumb as shit but it's been an issue from the start.

[–] obviouspornalt@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I think the term used was "police action"

So much pointless piss-farting about with this criminal,

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

So. He can still do it because no one will stop him. And if they do he will claim immunity based on the supreme courts ruling which protects the president during official acts.

[–] ysjet@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

iirc, they did add an escape clause, which is that the president is protected when doing official acts... with 'official acts' being a definition the supreme court sets.

[–] BrazenSigilos@ttrpg.network 1 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Official = legal in this context, so if he where to try and declare war without Congress approving, it would not be an official act.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, you sweet summer child

[–] BrazenSigilos@ttrpg.network 2 points 13 hours ago

I'm not deluded or ignorant, I'm well aware such a thing wouldn't stop the dictatorial asshat. I'm only pointing out that from a legal perspective, this wouldn't be an "official and legal" order. Such a thing can already be said of many of the Executive Orders that have been proclaimed and signed. It's a technicality, I know, but I'm just trying to point out another instance of the law being twisted and ignored rather then upheld.

[–] spicehoarder@lemm.ee 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

This dude is literally Palpatine

[–] BrazenSigilos@ttrpg.network 1 points 13 hours ago

Of course he is, and just like Palpatine, he will attempt to create laws and organizations that benefit himself. Especially if he feels he can twist the existing ones to suit this purpose.

Someone put pause on the orphan grinding machine!

I hate that this counts as uplifiting news.

[–] match@pawb.social 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's more like a "do not use" sign on the still-active orphan crushing machine

[–] Crewman@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] spicehoarder@lemm.ee 1 points 14 hours ago

That blows away in the wind?

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It doesn't. This c is just a politics horn these days.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 days ago

Good! That guy should be drawn and quartered.

[–] hellfire103@lemmy.ca 39 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Man, in every picture I see of that bastard, he somehow looks even more orange.

[–] LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

He was actually going less orange for awhile. Which, honestly, I personally think he actually looks better orange. When you see pictures of his natural skin tone he kinda looks freaky. Maybe I'm just use to the orange man.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He was actually going less orange for awhile.

Yeah, it was more of a shit-brown.

When you see pictures of his natural skin tone he kinda looks freaky.

I'd really rather just not see any of him at all other than in prison fatigues or an epitaph, especially in a community called 'uplifting news'. I can't look away, though. I'm fascinated by watching the Fall of Civilisation happening right in front of me, but I have to skip past clips of him or any of his cronies speaking or I'll surely end up putting my head through my screen.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

He's a decrepit ghoul, inside and out. The orange is a choice to make him look human, as though he enjoys the sun instead of sitting on the couch watching faux news, eating hamberders, shitting his pants.

He is, this is from interview 3 days ago: https://youtu.be/K_z7nDgblCU

Hold up. I just skimmed an article yesterday saying the Supreme Court gave the go ahead for the deportation of 250000 Venezuelans.

Can anyone clarify what's what?

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

What really pisses me off is that US meddling in Venezuela is the reason for Venezuelan refugees in the first place.

[–] LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee 26 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This was stripping the "Temporary Protective Status" from the Venezuelan immigrants. This essentially makes them all deportable now.

This court decision in the OP is blocking the use of the Alien Enemies Act Trump was trying to use to deport anyone that spoke out against Israel.

[–] gwilikers@lemmy.ml 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Ridiculous. What other has been or would ever be afforded such preferential treatment by the US?

[–] LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee 1 points 15 hours ago

Are you referring to Israel?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I thought that was already the act he used to send all those people to El Salvador? Is there some other 18th century alien enemies act they are using? How many of those are there?

[–] LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago

There is overlap on both of these things. They are using whatever methods they can to deport people. They are focusing on (1) deporting as many people as possible to have numbers to show and flex for their base come midterms and (2) to suppress all speaking out against the genocide in Gaza and labeling them as terrorists.

So. No, it's the same act. The administration is using whatever tools they can to suppress speech and deport brown people. So there is some overlap as well as the administration just making up shit and breaking the law as quickly as they can.

It's essentially the administrations policy to overwhelm the court systems and force them to play whackamole.

[–] riplin@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

That’s it. I’m unsubscribing from this c. Fuck that face.
