I'm guessing it won't stop with undocumented people. Not when there are homeless. And the LGBT+. And non-Christians. And anyone who isn't white.

[-] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 48 points 1 year ago

And anyone who opposes the regime. And anyone who maybe opposes the regime. And anyone who never opposed the regime but got denounced. And so on and so forth. History provides plenty of examples.

The depressing thing is, you will find a good number of people that will be directly affected by this and who will still vote for Trump, because something something Biden's age.....

[-] capital@lemmy.world 56 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Right now it’s all the rage to threaten not voting for Biden because of his handling of the Israel/Hamas conflict.

Idk guys… I wouldn’t recommend it.

[-] paddirn@lemmy.world 39 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No doubt some of that is being pushed by people who want Trump to win. I hate feeling like I don’t have a choice, but that’s kind of where we’re at now: an unhinged, legally cornered, autocratic Trump who is already threatening to turn America into a Christo-fascist dictatorship who will lock up his political enemies & immigrants, and will most likely push for out & out genocide in Palestine, OR an elderly Joe Biden, who has been the only semi-moderating force on Israel thus far (obviously he hasn’t gone far enough and have mostly given faint disapproval), but has otherwise been doing an ok-ish job the past few years (despite what the media says). It’s a shitty choice, but IMO too important to throw my vote away over a single issue.

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 12 points 1 year ago

If you mention Biden being elderly without meaning Trump is basically the same age, or call Biden senile without mentioning that Trump is clearly far worse in that regard, you're carrying water for Trump.

[-] utopianfiat@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

You have a choice, it's just a really, really easy one.

[-] brothershamus@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

Right now it’s all the rage to threaten not voting for Biden because of his handling of the Israel/Hamas conflict.

So I keep reading on the interwebs.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

And the infuriating thing is Trump is only three years younger than Biden!

[-] grabyourmotherskeys@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

One them has a proven track record of responsible behavior and surround themselves with excellent advisers who use actual facts and reason to make policy decisions. But he's three years older so let's go with the guy who's incoherent, malevolent, craven, and has never seen a success he couldn't turn into a failure.

“This vermin must be destroyed. The Jews are our sworn enemies, and at the end of this year there will not be a Jew left in Germany.” — Hitler, 1939

“We will root out the Communists, Marxists … and Radical Left Thugs that live like vermin within … our country.” — Trump, yesterday

[-] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

You know, I never really considered the vital nature of the second ammendment until I read that. I won't own weapons personally, and I really dislike the idea of any weapon small enough to be concealed or easily used for self injury.

But I know plenty of "radical left" who own firearms, and I'm willing to bet that Trumps version of gestapo will have a very different outcome if he tries it.

[-] spider@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 year ago

For those who believe in reincarnation, Trump was born the year after Hitler died.

[-] Blackout@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

He even has a cool new anagram ready: MANGA

[-] grue@lemmy.world 44 points 1 year ago

The article title misspelled "pogroms" and "concentration camps."

[-] billiam0202@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

And they'll give it some name like "Project 9066" and think they're so clever while the rest of us scream to our uneducated countrymen that yes, they can be both that evil and that obvious.

[-] SocialMediaSettler@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I wouldn't be surprised if he mentions gas chambers by year's end.

Bet you he gets the Christianity vote again

[-] grabyourmotherskeys@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

I haven't attended church for a long time but I do remember Jesus being very into persecuting others and generally in favour of cruelty for the sake of it. /s

[-] loutr@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 year ago

You're joking, but nowadays there are "Christians" who complain that their pastor teaching them about turning the other cheek and such is "leftist propaganda".

They don't care about Jesus at all, it's all about tribalism.

[-] wildginger@lemmy.myserv.one 6 points 1 year ago

Thats not new, thats been the driving mentality of the church since some poor bastard nailed a list to a church door.

Christianity has always been an evil religion.

Who's gonna build and maintain these camps? Have you seen the state of white people lately? We couldn't even get enough non-immigrant labor for food, let alone concentration camps. Plus NIMBY already hits hard on facilities that house undesirable populations, you think conservatives want to dedicate land near their own homes for immigrants? They're already busing and flying them away.

[-] wildginger@lemmy.myserv.one 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

All they need to build well is the walls, and all they need to maintain is the locks.

The quality is intentional. They intend to let them die as an example.

E: lot of trump supporters upset to have their plans highlighted, I see

They'd use National Guard.

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 26 points 1 year ago

This country seemingly goes more and more nuts by the day. How embarrassing.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

You know..... he's gonna piss off the farmers who rely on cheap (practically slave) labor form immigrants.

[-] capital@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

I thought he already did that when they fucked up H1Bs.

Problem is those people are very dumb and will vote for him again even if it hurts them personally.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Oh he did.

he's gonna do it again.

Don't forget rhe scummy leftists, antifa, and all of ilk. This us his round up of his opposition.

[-] TechyDad@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

And, eventually as all these things tend to go, Jews like myself will get rounded up. They already use "Soros" and "globalists" to hide what they are really saying. If they get enough power, they'll stop with the code words and round up all Jews for some imagined global conspiracy against them.

Of course, most Jews are left of center, so many of us will have already been rounded up already.

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

Hey everyone knows the US relationship with internment camps...they're for em!

[-] Marin_Rider@aussie.zone 8 points 1 year ago

you've all seen Children of Men right?

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

No need for that. We had history in school. We know how Hitler came to power and how the Nazis started, and we clearly see all the similarities. The GOP does not even try to hide or disguise it anymore.

[-] Ibex0@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

He says this stuff like he wasn't already president. He had 4 years and didn't deport any more annually than Obama.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

WASHINGTON, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Donald Trump, if re-elected in 2024, would expand his first-term immigration crackdown to include sweeping roundups of people who would be held in large camps to await deportation, the New York Times reported on Saturday.

It described Trump's plans as "an assault on immigration on a scale unseen in modern American history" and said it aimed to deport millions of people every year, including those who have been settled in the United States for decades.

The Biden-Harris campaign in a statement called Trump's immigration plans "extreme, racist, cruel policies" that are "meant to stoke fear and divide us, betting a scared nation is how he wins this election."

He would revive other hardline policies, including a COVID-19 era rejection of asylum claims, although this time the refusals would be based on assertions that migrants carry other infectious diseases, it continued.

To aid U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in sweeping roundups of undocumented people, Trump would reassign federal agents and deputize local police and National Guard troops volunteered by Republican-run states, the report said.

Other parts of Trump's plan call for screening visa applicants for ideological views, revoking the temporary protected status of people from certain countries deemed unsafe, and trying to end the citizenship birthright for babies born in the United States to undocumented parents, the newspaper said.
