Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

It's only cheating if the judges you appointed and/or bribed say it is.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

A few times it went up to the Supreme court and back and they still didn't fix it as required.

Alamabama? Missississippi?? One of those places.

If redrawn by an impartial 3rd party, then, hey, go for it.

But obviously that's not what's happening, or going to happen.

Now now it’s only cheating if the side that did the cheating loses then it’s cheating.

Pretty soon they’re gonna need some level 4 plates to protect their narrow house majority

The maps that are already illegal?

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

"Might". Nah, they just actually will.

Ohio has actually been required to redraw maps for 8 years now. After the 2016 election, it was found that our maps were too heavily biased by the OH Supreme Court, and they ordered a committee to redraw it. The committee is, of course, practically only staffed by GOPers, and they so far have submitted 8 maps that I know of. At least two of them were literally the same as the map that was found illegal, and the rest of them were found to not meet criteria either. They've been held in contempt multiple times but DeWine and friends seem not to really want to do anything about that.

Tried last year. Independent commission to redraw districts but they fucked the language and our Republican led supreme court allowed it. Thus confusing everyone into not voting for it. And then they bragged about it.

Still- the people in this state are too dumb to ever do anything about it.

What pisses me off about this is states that have dem majorities should be doing the exact same shit. Let them both suck so hard the courts have to demand non-party commission to set these boundaries. Why the hell do the Dems have to fight with a hand tied behind their back?

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

They do, just repubs do it way way more.

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, you have to actually have malice in your heart to go full republican. Dems can only muster a little self-righteous indignation.

[–] Sprocketfree@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

Yea, I'm saying they have to at least match the bullshit. Make us all equally angry about this bullshit so we can all agree to be done with it.

Interstate compact. Don't give up gerrymandered districts until a supermajority of states agree to independently drawn or algorithmic districts.

They did do the same thing. New York's Democrat-friendly maps were struck down by the state courts, and were redrawn, losing about 3-4 Democratic House seats. That alone could move us in theory from 212-220, to 216-216 right now.

This ONLY Works because Republicans ALWAYS vote in Their Best Interests and NEVER EVER EVER for the Person LITERALLY CAMPAIGNING ON RUINING THEIR LIVES!

Why don't you recount now that you've kicked out or scared off a bunch of the immigrants who made those numbers work for you, Texas?

[–] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 days ago

cries in Tennessee

Gotta draw up some bull shitty districts so you can stay in power.

gerrymandering is such bull shit.

There will never be another meaningful election in the United States, ever again. It will be like Russia, the Correct Party always wins.
