The show is "The Residence" :)

Yea I think so. Season 1 is a nice complete story, so there's no cliffhanger or other BS

[–] GammaGames@beehaw.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, it was a fun show

No idea, I haven't seen it, I just checked the article as I was curious what show it was!

[–] Remorhaz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

It’s nothing special. It likes to waste a lot of time recapping itself, and has 4 jokes that it will cycle through repeatedly, one of which is just that Hugh Jackman was in attendance during the murder, but the show didn’t actually get Jackman so it’s just a guy.

You aren’t really able to solve the murder because they fail to properly foreshadow the “clue” who the murderer is.

Too much tell instead of show

[–] SteposVenzny@beehaw.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

Dumb ending but it was a fun ride along the way.

Honestly, just cancel Netflix.

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's exactly what I've done

Time to use CBC gem 🔴, NFB and the available provincial broadcaster options instead!

[–] elgordino@fedia.io 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, for me Netflix has been downgraded to the ‘subscribe for a month or two a year’ tier, like all the other services.

My rule for a long time has been to not start any Netflix series until after it's completely done, i feel significantly less disappointed this way.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

This is a very reasonable rule, but unfortunately I think it also impacts the metrics they use to make these decisions.

[–] cristian64@reddthat.com 7 points 2 weeks ago

I've been following this rule for about a good decade now. It doesn't apply only to Netflix series.

The are many series to watch; no point in starting to watch one without any guarantee that the series will keep consistent good ratings until the finale.

[–] wetsoggybread@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'll never forgive Netflix for canceling Sens8 it was such a novel concept that could have gone on for at least 2 more seasons, yeah the orgies were awkward and I don't quite remember the point of them but other than that it was a great show

[–] rodneyck@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago

The orgies were awesome, but besides that I agree. I lived for this series.

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

It was such a cool concept. The ending felt really forced, you could tell they had a bunch more story planned.

It was also cool they always filmed on location, it was nice to watch. Some shows will be set somewhere, but the background is so obviously southern California it just takes you out of the plot. I'm sure it was expensive AF, but it showed in the quality of it.

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 17 points 2 weeks ago

You can reuse this headline every year

[–] redsunrise@programming.dev 14 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Why do they exclusively only cancel good shows (Mindhunter, Inside Job, now this) and keep up actual garbage?? I don't think Netflix has made a wise business decision ever, the only reason they're successful is because they were the first. They're lucky Blockbuster didn't buy them.

[–] Envy@fedia.io 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Mindhunter wasn't canceled initially, David Fincher put it on hiatus himself

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I personally think they should have given him a blank check to get him back, everyone has a price

[–] keyez@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I didn't sound like that was the issue, Fincher didn't want to work on TV anymore. Also why it appears Mindhunter is returning as films instead of another season.

I know but everyone has a price. Are the mindhunter films definitely happening?

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 7 points 2 weeks ago

Tbh they do also cancel low-rated shows too. You just don't care when they do.

[–] xia@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe garbage shows are cheaper to produce, or get better viewers-per-dollar-spent measurements?

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I've read that they cancel most shows after two seasons because season 3 is usually when the cast renegotiates their salary and they're too cheap to pay them what their worth.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wow, I didn't even know Kaos was canceled. That show had amazing cast and unique setting. Wtf.

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It wasn't my cup of tea but it was a well made and interesting show, I'm surprised they cancelled it.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Cast alone should have kept the show running. Jeff Goldblum as Zeus? Perfection lol

Jeff Goldblum can only be a good thing

[–] thr0w4w4y2@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

I wasn’t surprised. Trans-masc romance is not going to appease the political leadership of the country. Why take the risk of a twitter/truth-social tirade?

[–] DrWalterBishop@piefed.social 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It seemed like a miniseries to me. Who's expecting a second season when the mystery in the titular residence is solved at the end of the first?

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah that's what I thought as well. I guess I wouldn't have minded seeing them do another mystery with one more season, but the concept has potential to get tired pretty quick

[–] UsefulInfoPlz@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Welcome to the club… we have shirts.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] UsefulInfoPlz@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

The list is so long…

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

How could they cancel a show with Jeff Goldblum hamming it up as Zeus??

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

He was born to play that role.

[–] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They'll need funding for Big Mouth from somewhere.

Haven't heard about the show but I honestly can't stand shows about "The White House" anymore. Just ignoring the current fascist politics is unforgivable, so is showing the previous US regime as "the good old days", but even any attempt to address it but still make it entertaining is distasteful too. It's just propaganda one way or another.

[–] shadowedcross@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

Oh is it that time of the week again?

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I wonder if they're going to start cancelling shows after the first half of the season.

[–] VonReposti@feddit.dk 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Why not go back to cable TV methods and cancel it after the pilot?

[–] cepelinas@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's expiration date.

Time to watch your local broadcaster and library movies.

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The ending was so bad that it made me regret watching it, anyway.
