Is anyone else having problems with the Xbox series X version? Just getting a Black screen, but the music and the UI sounds are in the background. Am i the only one?

Can someone explain how community expeditions work?

I don’t have any friends and I can’t play timed events, because I have other priorities. Can I play this? Can I keep doing whatever I do on NMS while playing this expedition? How long does an expedition take?

Yes; I do everything solo, for the most part. They're generally pretty easy.

I played NMS a couple of years ago. The seemless transition from planet to space, the vastness of the galaxy and a lot of the gameplay elements kept me playing for several hours. But after that it felt like the game was not super deep gameplay-wise and I cannot find motivation in just decorating planets.

Obviously, I missed several updates since then but I am wondering whether the progression and gameplay got more depth to it?

The developers seem to be really sophisticated and I am very thankful for how they maintain and support their game.

I think that's a fair assessment. NMS's gameplay is broad, not deep whereas something like Starfield is deep, not broad. If you don't like the sandbox parts of the game, like base building, I can understand why it's not your favorite. That being said, I think it's worth revisiting from time to time to check out the new features and expeditions.

I've played every expedition and will usually play that save for a little bit after the expedition is over, building bases, maxing out my freighter, etc. Then I move on to another game until the next major update or expedition. Overall it's a fairly chill game and the community is nice.

In my opinion the bad of NMS is that you have a lot of game mechanics but they don't link together, not the fact that there are sandbox parts in the game.
Every aspect is on its own which, while not bad in itself, is probably a limiting factor in the long run since in the end they feel somewhat shallow even if they have a lot of potential to link with something else and despite being sandbox.

It's crazy to read all the features that creeped into Star Citizen that caused it to delay release into the next 50 years, but is effortlessly added into NMS on a smaller dev team within a few years

As a Star Citizen player, I'm all for other games stepping up with some real competition.

I can't wait to hop back in to No Mans Sky and check out this update.

That being said, this isn't an update that has implemented all of what makes Star Citizen stand out. We still don't have hundreds of players able to congregate on a single ship. AI pathing/tactics in NMS is very basic. We don't have cities/interiors on the scale that Star Citizen has. A single planet doesn't have much of a variance to their biomes (no mixes of tundra/desert, forest, high altitude, low altitude, wetland etc.). We're mostly limited to just Cave, Surface, and Underwater biomes.

I'm hoping that we start to see more complex planets with the work being done on Light No Fire. I'm definitely looking forward to future updates on this game.

And Elite Dangerous has had fans wanting walkable ship interiors for a decade or so. NMS 'here you go and craft your own ship to boot' ! There's been rather a lot of cross-pollination between the two, but this round goes to NMS by landslide, assuming it works as advertised, and sight unseen I'll assume so given past efforts. NMS, the game that keeps giving.

You can walk around the interior, customize the interior and seamlessly EVA.

This goes beyond anything I could have expected.

[–] jeff_rose@lemmy.world 11 points 5 hours ago

Yeah, I know people have asked for something like this for a while now. I never expected it to happen.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I wonder if this applies to all current starship designs or only the specific class.

[–] jeff_rose@lemmy.world 8 points 5 hours ago

Only the new class of ships, Corvettes. There are some YouTubers streaming it. Corvette building looks like ship building in Starfield.

As shit, I'm redownloading NMS again aren't I? There goes my next month.

[–] GriffinClaw@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 hours ago

Same. Think Ill just keep it installed on an external HD.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

maybe i should give this a shot again. i worry my xbox one or legion go would have trouble though. played it years ago. loved it. but my “push” to keep playing fell off once I had basically infinite money and no more story.

[–] missphant@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 hours ago

It runs at a pretty steady 40fps on Steam Deck and is really enjoyable, no doubt it'll be a decent experience on Legion Go.

[–] SSUPII@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Will this be available on the Nintendo Switch 1 version?

[–] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 hours ago

They have never content locked any expansions before, so I would presume so. Everything still works on the OG PS4 version too.

Granted you get better graphics on faster hardware.

[–] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 hours ago

Holy hell. Not what I was expecting at all.
