Moose are fucking terrifying.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Yup. Just went to Yellowstone and that was the one I was most worried about as far as animals go. I’m just worried they will come out of nowhere and mow you down.

[–] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (3 children)

You don't want to know what will happen if you hit them with a vehicle.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You better swerve unless you’re driving one of these. Even then you better swerve.

I been Yellowstone three times, never even thought about them. Especially never worried about them. But Bison those guys are just waiting to mess you up.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s crazy how close people were getting to the bison. It’s a giant wild animal… enjoy your Darwin Award, I guess.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They are literally a aggressive animal that will and does kill people. But they look so timid and why they sell shirts and bumper stickers that say Don't pet the fluffy cows.

For me I think they remember what we did to them and that is why they fucking hate us. I seen them literally sit in the middle ot the road and glare at the drivers.

Have you gone to the Bison museum in West Yellowstone?

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Didn’t go there even though we stayed in West Yellowstone, mostly because we were completely wiped out after a 9-hour day at the park. Did we miss out.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That rookie numbers got to pump the numbers up. We like to stay a week at a time. Stil can't do everything. And I have been.three years in a row. Was supposed to go this year but miss out.

The view from the top of Purple Mountain. Climb that and almost wiped out my boys in 2023.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That’s pretty! I definitely want to stay for longer next time. This year we did Glacier and Yellowstone in the same vacation, it was great but could be extended or split into two trips.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

It was a beautiful scence. But it took us all damn day to climb that Mountain. It was supposed to be 3 miles, but man it felt much longer.

Edit: one cool thing is at the top you write your name on a sheet to prove you made it.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I bet there was quite the elevation gain. The miles, they lie!

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yes and doesn't help that it was a winding path

Some other shots from the park:

This were fun to ride.

Was super hot and wife got overheated walking down to this water.

I love the park and can't wait to go back.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Beautiful pics, thanks for sharing! We did an audio tour while riding around, making stops and seeing the sights. Next time we’ll explore in more detail.

Saw one in a yard in anchorage. It's like deer are in the Midwest

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Some of the last surviving Megafauna, yep.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Some of the most successful species on the planet are megafauna: cattle, and your mom

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

They're huge and dumb. They can trample, and did i mention how huge they are? The first time I saw one up close it was a surprise to the both of us. About shat myself.

[–] fahfahfahfah@lemmy.billiam.net 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fun fact, orcas are considered a natural predator of moose

[–] thax@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

I bet that's a delicacy in orca society.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Would you rather…:
• …encounter a moose in the water
• …encounter a great white on land

Def option 2 for me…

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What about two feet of jelly?

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Well part of Moose habitat is swamps, bog, marshes, lakes, the ocean, forests, plains, scrubland.....

Two feet of jelly probably wouldn't phase them.

Sharks would have a few difficulties.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Did you just say moose live in the ocean??

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Certian types of Moose like a type of seaweed that grows at a depth that they have to dive to get at. They can swim rather well for a terrestrial animal over a ton.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago

I've seen footage of them swimming in rivers/lakes, but I didn't know they went in the ocean.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

It's how the orcas eat them

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Now hold on there for a minute.

I will fight a sexy sharkette in the jello pool.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Have fun, and good luck!

[–] felsiq@piefed.zip 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Actually scarier, cuz I feel like moose are way more likely to fuck you up than sharks if you take into account how often humans interact with them

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Moose will attack you, but a lot of the deaths they cause are from hitting them with vehicles.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

i seen alot of stupid people trying to approach a moose(videos). they arnt deer, or dogs.

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

Dear and dogs kill more people per year.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fucked up that they can swim tbh

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 week ago

They can dive.

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Legitimately scarier than a shark.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

The ironic part is that they cause more deaths than sharks

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I believe Kevin Smith is actually making this

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt4269346/

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

A møøse once bit my sister…

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

Her fault if she was carving her initials into it tbh

[–] slowmorella@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I first thought she is transporting two chairs on her shoulder.

[–] dangercake@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago

I thought it was an antenna hat

[–] dagger_punch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

"Moose Jaws"

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ma-oose, Ma-oose. maoose maoose. maoose maoose maoose maoose. moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose moose

[–] Aarkon@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago

We‘ll need a bigger boat

[–] ashenone@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

I honestly can't think of many scenarios more terrifying than this. Better hope your carrying a gun in that situation so you can take the easy way out

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

There is no place safe. He kills in the water and on land. A must see "Mooooose eh!" Coming soon to at least two theaters.
