Please do not post the "good friend" or similar copypasta

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

We'll be coming back for his mom, right master?

Maybe later, once we're finished with all our duties, like putting down the illegal Tattooine slave uprising and various other revolts that threaten the status quo.

Actually, on second thought, a mother is a personal connection. Can't have the Jedi making human connections because if they end up dying without heirs, the Jedi order usually gets most or all of their shit. We'll just ignore the whole genetic component of force sensitivity (and also fail to discover that Anakin's strength is because his father was literally the dark side of the force).

He knows that

a) pod racing brings other good stuff (tourism, commerce, street vendors).

b) the pod racing industry are wealthy and can take the hit. Rather than betting against other gamblers he's betting against bookies (the gambling industry).

c) homegrown hero stories bring the planet closer to supporting rebellion politics.

Aren't the rebels the bad guys at that point? You know, with the whole gassing thing? The rebellion against the Galactic Empire doesn't exist, seeing how the Galactic Empire doesn't even exist yet.

IIRC they called the bad guys the Separatists in that movie.

[–] Mim@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

They didn't exist then either. The bad guys were the Trade Federation that blockaded Naboo and wanted to take over the planet.

[–] elephantium@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Weren't the trade federation and the separatists the same thing?

Or am I mixing up my ep 1 and ep 2 names?

It's been a while, and tbh I'm not eager to go back and rewatch them.

The Trade Federation were part of the Separatist in Episode 2 and 3 (and the Clone Wars series).

IIRC, you don't need the force to cheat at Sabbac. Just need to be the main character who goes first

“I’m not your Palawan, buddy!”

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

But then we wouldn’t have a cool pod-racing scene!

[–] lime@feddit.nu 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

as a child it was cool. as an adult it's just sooooooo loooooooong...

I saw the movie in the theater during the original run. I have a copy on VHS, and I have a copy on DVD. The version on the DVD is longer and adds NOTHING, it's more footage of the same shit happening.

Fuck I miss seeing things as a child...

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or the n64 cash grab game! (That I actually kinda liked)

[–] TheRedSpade@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The PC pod racing game was fun. At least, I thought it was at the time.

[–] Cavemanfreak@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 19 hours ago

I remember the Gameboy Color game with rumble pack being pretty fun as well, but really hard.

"What if we just let George do whatever he wants and nobody says anything?"

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago

The prequels were huge blow to Auteur Theory. Even if you think they're redeemed, I think you still have to admit that this isn't the result you would want for complete creative control.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, people said things. But he just told them off and did what he was going to do anyways.

Like when he wanted cgi troopers for attack of the clones. Everyone told him it was going to be costly, look worse than real actors, and be time consuming. He stuck his feet in the sand and they did it anyways.

"Now that I've mastered digital eyelash rendering my characters are better than ever!"

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Yes, and that's why you're the nerd Padawan and I'm the cool, hotshot Jedi Knight
