5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials or celebrity gossip is allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis.
7. No duplicate posts.
If a source you used was already posted by someone else, the autoMod will leave a message. Please remove your post if the autoMod is correct. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

BTW, Paul Weyrich, the guy that created the Heritage Foundation also helped sneak computers and other electronics into the Soviet Union and held mock elections to teach Soviet politicians about democracy in 1989.
In 1991 several members of Heritage formed the first of its kind go between for U.S. and Russia businesses to help them make the transition to capitalism.
But we just don't talk about that apparently.
Somebody made a documentary about some of it in 2012 that aired once on PBS and then never again.
And then Weyrich gave a talk at a Christian college in 1996, and while taking questions from the audience he casually mentioned that as far as he knew, Gorbachev's right hand man wanted to crack down on him while he was holding mock elections. He claims when Gorbachev responded in silence the right hand man left his office and allegedly began planning the coup the next day unbeknownst to anyone from the U.S.
And now here we are almost 40 years later, and shit seems to be coincidentally unfolding basically the exact same way as we continue to watch the Trump administration execute the publicly available playbook provided by Heritage.

Why not just declare everything to be automatically classified, which is what they are technically doing, and assign higher levels of classification to the stuff that is/gets usually classified... but I guess that's classified...

Because ultimately the name doesn't really matter, it's just another ego flex like renaming the Gulf of Mexico. Whether they're the DoD or the DoW, they're doing the same bullshit.
Also, DoW is the original name for that department, anyway. And honestly, it's more fitting given their history.
Although since it was renamed in 1949, we didn't fight any wars on the scale of WWI or WWII. Perhaps the name contributed to that?
I'd rather it be called department of war because it's more accurate of what it's for.
