I mean, yelling at UPS seems kind of unreasonable. Trump put the new system into place without a lead time for getting shippers to set up a system to handle all this, and I saw plenty of parties saying that this was going to lead to chaos. Sure enough...
I remember reading some articles about people waiting for their Framework Desktop machines shipped via Fedex getting frustrated at them being held up in customs too.
Ideally they'd send the packages back to the origin instead of throwing them in the trash.
I'm not pro company or anything, but why should ups have to pay to do that. I would say they should give them to a third party to auction off, but since they didn't clear customs, I can't see how they could do that either.
If UPS sells you shipping, they need to deliver. Or refund and return. It is basic business deal; don't promise what you can't deliver.
If they wanna blame Trump or customs or whatever, they can do that.
Well, when they sold it, conditions were one way. Then things changed. That pretty much invalidates the deal. Same as if your contractor opens up a wall and finds asbestos. It ain't right, but blaming UPS is really blaming the victum in this case. This is all trumps doing. People even told them this would happen.
FedEx could demand a deposit for return shipping on bounced packages. It's paperwork to refund that but it helps them avoid indolence.

Sure they could, but them everyone would take thier business to the company that didn't. Who knows, maybe that is how we got fed ex and not some other company.
Ideally they would have been given some time to ramp up the process to do that.
And ideally they’d give a shit about doing their jobs well. Obviously there are systemic and also these more acute issues at play. There are also undeniably people who work there, at FedEx and at the USPS who could not care less, and that’s a shame.
They had time. They didn't want to spend money on it.
Honestly, with the current government, making investments like that make no sense. The rules and regulations can change any day without reason. A tariff set up to "create manufacturing jobs" (the usual excuse) can vanish before any company has gathered their board to think about expansion...

Already the case. My partner's company stopped shipping ahead of this because they couldn't be fucked.
I asked if anyone in the industry was working on workarounds; nope. No one's bothering and has excluded the US as any sort of market.
International shipping is basically dead now. Like you really gotta want the item and be willing to pay a lot for it, especially as shipping services become more unique and costly.
i heard some companies had the forethought in december ship a couple years of raw materials/material so they wouldnt immediately get fucke dover.
Hi, I had tried to bring this up in the r/UPS subreddit on Reddit since I don't seem to be seeing a UPS community on here, and I ended up getting comments that I feel are negative and rude against me. It had led to me having to block at least three people so far and delete three of my own comments due to the reception I was getting there. I don't know if I misworded my post or something, since all I was trying to find out is if there are any lawsuits and possibly any class action lawsuits going on related to the customs and 'disposing of' U.S. bound packages mess this article is talking about. The reason I wanted to find out is that I currently have a package in transit coming from Australia and another package that I paid for last night that will be coming from the United Kingdom (possibly the European Union), and since I don't know what parcel carrier each of them are going to when they cross through customs, since I'm unfortunately in the United States. Because of that, I'm just worried about them while trying to find out what to do and if there is any talk of legal action going on, and I'm not looking for trouble.
Your best bet is probably to take the tracking info you have and contact UPS directly.
Fact of life right now though is international shipping is going to be wonky/fucked for the US at least.
I've had some packages seem like they've just disappeared, but then eventually show up, and others that are still in the ether.

I get annoyed when I order something and find out it's coming from overseas during the best of times...
The last box I shipped to the US (from Canada) got snagged at customs for a while, they said it was missing some paperwork, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't. I was wondering if this would become a pattern...I guess so.
Our company orders a lot of stuff from overseas manufacturers because it's highly specialized precision equipment. One department is currently locked in a nightmare with customs wanting not just manufacturing sources for each component of this equipment, but they want raw-material sources for each component as well. So not just "where was this manufactured", but "where was the steel for this poured".
It's been a month of chasing down these things for every single component, down to individual screws, bolts, and pins.
That's insane. I'm fortunate my company can just stop shipping to the US, and it wouldn't be a significant loss. It definitely sucks for anyone who just has to deal with it.
yea anything from ASIA, forget it, if through things like ebay or another site.
Bonded warehouses are expensive and have limited space.
