Stay with me….

My wife and I were traveling, and as a joke I said, “Okay Samantha, I’m tired. I know I said no witchcraft, but just this once you can twinkle your nose and make us be there.” We started trying to twitch our noses like Samantha on Bewitched and obviously couldn’t do it. We laughed, and she said that Elizabeth Montgomery couldn’t do it either, and I argued that she could. This was the ‘60s, so CGI didn’t exist. So my wife gets on Google and looks it up, and it turns out that Elizabeth Montgomery NEVER MOVED HER NOSE, IT WAS HER UPPER LIP THE WHOLE TIME!

I didn’t believe it. It COULDN’T be true. I’ve watch almost every episode growing up, and she twitched her NOSE. We went to YouTube, and, son of a gun, It was her upper lip. EVERY TIME. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

I don’t know anything anymore.

New universe just dropped, shout out everyone that came here from the nose twitch universe with me!

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I haven't had any luck finding my favorite t-shirts since sliding to this timeline and I miss them.

[–] Naz@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Apparently, the old universe FOTL is being made by "Gildan" now:

Freaking Canucks stole manufacturing for fotl, gold toe, under armour? Let’s invade ! Let’s bring home that American manufacturing to our 51 state

[–] GenderNeutralBro@lemmy.sdf.org 63 points 5 days ago (1 children)

WHAT in the name of Nelson Bearenstein Mandela's monocle is this shit?

This can't be true. I don't think I've seen Bewitched since last millennium, but I guess I need to now.

[–] troglodytis@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Why you out there collapsing universes into this dumbest timeline?

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 14 points 5 days ago (4 children)

The alternatives are worse. I'm from the werewolf universe, this one's better.

[–] 667@lemmy.radio 16 points 5 days ago

Are you crabs yet?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'm from the universe where everyone has really really big dicks. So imagine my surprise when I get here and find your politicians and global leaders mostly have small dick energy, and they have no balls.

You guys have much better county fair food though. Have you ever had an elephant ear? Don't worry! No actual elephants were harmed in the making of this food. And it's much better than fresh cucumber on a stick.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 5 days ago

I thought you meant the werewolves have great big dicks and I’m like “I’m on my way uwu”

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't know... I may go werewolves on this.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You don't understand the true horror of the werewolf universe. Everyone is werewolves, so it's normal there. You can't call in sick because of lycanthropy, you still have to go to work. Nobody runs around in the woods when they transform because they can't afford to stay up late, and it's just normal boring old lycanthropy anyway. People take pills for it because it's just a hassle. It's totally ruined werewolves.

Did your werewolves always have jorts on when they transformed back into buff young men, or was that just my universe?

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 24 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Just watched a compilation. Her nose doesn't move at all. I am flummoxed.

[–] spizzat2@lemmy.zip 26 points 5 days ago

Did you bring enough to share with the class?

[–] Nusm@peachpie.theatl.social 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

And now you can’t unsee it.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

What's confusing me is that her nose doesn't even kind of move. Like, there's no illusion at play, it is literally just her lips moving. This is The Berenstain Bears all over again!

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

But when Samantha had her little baby Tabitha, and Tabitha grew up, Tabitha would use her finger to wiggle her nose.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 26 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Well tbf, twitching your upper lip does make the tip of your nose twitch as well. If you have a retroussé nose like Sam, it's more obvious than with some other nose shapes. If you're 3, like Tabitha, you might have to push your nose with your finger as she cutely did. And you'll notice Endora spell-cast exclusively with her arms, as befit her dramatic nature. Sam did that too, but she knew how to channel her power through a discreet and surreptitious twitch in order to "pass" among mortals.

(Yes I have a similar nose and used to twitch along with Sam when watching as a kid)

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

What's the opposite of a retroussé nose? Looking sort of like a macaw?

Edit: found it, I think. Looks like it's called an aquiline nose. "Eagle like".

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Similar: Twitching your ears is actually twitching the muscles at the back of your scalp which happens to make your ears move.

[–] TeamAssimilation@infosec.pub 5 points 5 days ago

Doubt. I can twitch my ears, both horizontally and vertically, and the muscles that move them feel much closer than the back/top of the scalp, about two inches from their base.

[–] northernlights@lemmy.today 2 points 4 days ago

Yes when you move a thing the muscle that moves it is not on the thing.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 20 points 5 days ago

Used to watch bewitched as a kid. Learned how to “wiggle” my nose just like Samantha. It is only the upper lip but peops believe it’s a nose wiggle if not informed of the scam.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Remember when Darren was a whole different person that year?

[–] porksnort@slrpnk.net 5 points 5 days ago

That’s when I fell in love with the TV Buffy the vampire slayer series. I remembered as a kid having a surreal sort of unease with the new Darren. When Buffy brought in Dawn, I felt so validated.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 16 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I'd say if you can move your nose without moving your top lip, you're not built normally.

[–] voodooattack@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

I can wiggle both my nose and my ears without moving anything else

Tap for spoilerDefinitely not normal

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

I can but im definitely not built normally

Edit: for an explanation, i just pull the musscles to the sides of my nostrils "back" like the opposite of flaring your nostrils. It has the effect of pulling the whole tip of my nose up and down a bit while my surrounding face is still as stone

Is it because the opening credits show her only twitching her nose so we equate that to her in the live action scenes?

[–] spykee 11 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)
[–] Nusm@peachpie.theatl.social 10 points 5 days ago

At least I knew she was blinking!

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 5 days ago

Bearenstein was real. One of the first epiphanies I had wherein I fully questioned my parents' ineffability when they would not budge on the "correct" pronunciation —despite one of them growing up with German spoken in the house. This is personally my most resonant proof of multiple echoed timelines. 🫠

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

I'm so confused

I didn't grow up in the 60s or watching the show so maybe I just don't remember seeing her twitch her nose ever. I always thought it was some sort of a quick smirk she did when using her power.

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 5 days ago (3 children)

TIL that people thought it was just the nose.

[–] Nusm@peachpie.theatl.social 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago

To be fair, the show wasn't too popular here in Spain so it never got into popular culture.

This post is giving my old ass anxiety. Please take it down.

[–] you_are_dust@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

I haven't watched bewitched since I was a little kid. This also exposes the lies of my childhood. I always looked at her nose because that's the claim is that she's twitching her nose so that's what you focus on. Now you've ruined my life because you told me to look at her upper lip. Thanks.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't think there's a human on earth who can wiggle their nose without their lip muscles.

[–] Nusm@peachpie.theatl.social 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

But if you go and watch, it turns out that she didn’t move her nose at all. Just her upper lip

[–] Cephalotrocity@biglemmowski.win 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Nah, her nose definitely moved. She does it twice in this clip and her nose moves both times. https://youtu.be/115T9BInGIc?t=198

Edit: To be clear I agree she's using her upper lip but it 'does' cause the nostrils to wobble side to side.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Damn, that was a close one!

For a moment I though we were going to be told that Santa Claus doesn't actually exist.

[–] Nusm@peachpie.theatl.social 3 points 4 days ago

Hey hey hey! Spoiler alert please!!

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I trust Uncle John's Bathroom Reader over Google any day

[–] Nusm@peachpie.theatl.social 1 points 4 days ago

But I trust my lyin’ eyes over Uncle John. There’s compilations on YouTube of her doing it, and you can clearly see that it’s her upper lip and not her nose.

Seriously, I love the Bathroom Readers and have several of them around the house, but he wasn’t flawless!

[–] weariedfae@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 days ago

Welp I'm from this universe because she's always moved her upper lip for me.

[–] blave@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Welcome to the club of, literally, the billions of people who came before you

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Turns out you were John Snow the entire time.
