I still call it Twitter, because that's what it is.

[–] nickhammes@lemmy.world 65 points 2 years ago

When he stops deadnaming his daughter, maybe I'll start to care about his attempted rebrand of Twitter

[–] kratoz29@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

This is the only sane response.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I still call Meta Facebook and alphabet Google... No one is confused, it's only ambiguous if you start getting into logistics about business units

Twitter didn't even reorganize, they just changed their name to something it feels dumb to say. It's actually less ambiguous to call it Twitter, because X is a confusing trademark

As a trans person, I like to remind everyone you are not just allowed but encouraged to deadname Twitter

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 55 points 2 years ago

Calling it deadnaming implies Twitter chose the name X. Twitter did not make that decision, thus calling Twitter Twitter is in no danger of offending Twitter.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Going to deadname Twitter as long as musk is deadnaming his daughter

Oohhh that’s a good one.

[–] BoastfulDaedra@lemmynsfw.com 15 points 2 years ago (1 children)

...what the heck is "deadnaming"?

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 23 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Using a trans persons's birth name rather than their preferred name. If done purposefully, it's extremely insulting.

[–] BoastfulDaedra@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 2 years ago

Thanks, I hadn't heard the term.

Ooh. Excellent point. I will be disrespectfully deadnaming Twitter from now on.

We should stop calling it.

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 47 points 2 years ago (2 children)
[–] Thorny_Insight@lemm.ee 16 points 2 years ago (3 children)

And Meta will always be Facebook

Just do what The Register does

Twitter, the social media service now calling itself X,

[–] BoastfulDaedra@lemmynsfw.com 8 points 2 years ago

Respect, but... No.

[–] cashews_best_nut@lemmy.world 36 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Xitter. Pronounced shitter.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Does that make tweets xeets, pronounced shits?

Tweets are Xcrements

[–] scottywh@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

The only acceptable answer

[–] ultra@feddit.ro 6 points 2 years ago

And tweets are xits

[–] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 23 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Or we can call it by the past tense "Twat".

It's much easier to simply keep calling it Twitter. Further syllables add nothing.

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just call it Shitter, because that's what it is.

[–] derpgon@programming.dev 5 points 2 years ago

Spelled "Xitter"

[–] KmlSlmk64@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Or you could call it what Linus on Wan show by Linus Tech Tips YT channel made up: ex-Twitter You essentially say both of the names and the fact that Twitter is the "old name". But as a F-u to Musk, we should just call it Twitter.

Just use the URL: twitter.com

[–] habitualTartare@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (3 children)

X-twitter is my personal favorite. Ex-twitter works too.

I still use the old names; Facebook, Twitter
I don't care if they change their names. Less brain power used to stick to an old name most (still) know.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 2 years ago

Facebook is still called that. The social media platform, that is; the company that runs it is now called Meta, and it makes sense to distinguish those.

[–] Kraiden@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago

Twitter, formerly know as successful

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

What about just "Ten"?

[–] xkforce@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Its literally twitter.com and I despise musk so its called twitter for all of time.

[–] thefloweracidic@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

I say we just ignore it, everytime someone mentions it one red blood cell enters the Muskian dick

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 2 years ago

I ignore it whenever possible but if I do say anything, it's called Twitter

[–] mawkishdave@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

The dumpster fire formally called Twitter.

[–] SuperSpruce@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 years ago

Whenever it occurs in spoken conversation, I call it X to highlight the absurdity of the rebranding. The other person either needs an explanation or a few seconds to figure out what I mean.

[–] vinylshrapnel@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I pronounce it “not c” instead of x

eXitter seems to be the correct name at the moment.

[–] gilokee@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

x can be pronounced as sh, so...shitter?

Whether you call it Ex-twitter or X-twitter, I don't really care :-)
