Okay, but how does that definition not precisely describe a tool?

It sounds like it very much is a tool, in the exact usual sense of the word.

[-] meekah@lemmy.world 38 points 6 months ago

I guess they think tools are just things like pliers, wrenches, grinders etc. without realizing they themselves are the real tools they made along the way

[-] Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 6 months ago

They were guinea pigs. Their "tooliness" is just a side effect of the experiment.

[-] sbv@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 months ago

And it's definitely "multi"

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 24 points 6 months ago

I thought it was those folding pliers that have a knife and a screwdriver in the handle?

[-] ooterness@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

The monologue is a quote from Deus Ex, talking about one of these electronic gizmos.

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

So... basically the sonic screwdriver from Doctor Who then?

[-] Transform2942@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 months ago

That's what I thought!

[-] Hugh_Jeggs@lemm.ee 6 points 6 months ago

That and those oscillating electric chisel things

[-] snooggums@midwest.social 19 points 6 months ago

"What is this, some kind of sonic screwdriver?"

-Dr Who

[-] Simon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 months ago

Yeah but why is it disposable though. Plastic waste smh.

[-] PiJiNWiNg@sh.itjust.works 16 points 6 months ago

The world of Deus Ex is one of extreme late stage capitalism, so disposable for no other reason then to make you buy another one tracks... Or maybe it's a liability thing?

[-] Simon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 6 months ago

It's obviously to ensure terrorists can't use them at scale without obtaining crates of the things. They made and sold a reusable multitool once - society almost didn't recover.

Not to critique too hard, but the woman shouldn’t look angry, she she should be looking in the distance thinking, “these fake boobs weren’t worth it.”

[-] Plavatos@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 months ago

The tool helps you Deu Sex.

[-] AlolanYoda@mander.xyz 6 points 6 months ago

Man, I was enjoying Deus Ex, but I ended up dropping it halfway through. It wasn't even a decision to do so, I just stopped playing due to being busy and being in a frustrating part in game (I don't even remember where or why, last I actively remember is Hong Kong, I think, but I don't think I dropped it there). Maybe I should try to finish a playthrough soon

[-] scrion@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

You should. It's a good game.

[-] TheControlled@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

Yeah you are OP. I've been watching lol

[-] Pandantic@midwest.social 3 points 6 months ago

So, a sonic screwdriver?

[-] FaizalR@kbin.social 3 points 6 months ago
[-] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 13 points 6 months ago

One of the best video games ever made.

[-] dingus182@endlesstalk.org 3 points 6 months ago

A dozen options; not good at any.

[-] Willie@kbin.social 3 points 6 months ago

I know exactly what she's thinking from that expression.

How unprofessional.

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 months ago

So it's just a fancy hammer

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

what is going on with the face of the guy in the seat in front of them???

[-] Sidhean@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Mustache but frown is funnier.

[-] gnutrino@programming.dev 1 points 6 months ago

Honestly not a bad recreation of the expression in the original with the face of Joseph Manderly.

JC Denton profile pics have ruined the game for me. It could be the 3rd coming of Christ and I would still hate it for those interactions alone.
