Empathy at what my American friends are going through, and dread about our own incoming conservative wave.

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 52 points 1 month ago

That's a pretty disturbing story, and I never would have imagined they would not tell a victim. I understand the argument against it, but the risk of long term mental illness / PTSD from it being suppressed just seems way too high.

Gotta wait until palworld has made a bucket of money for Nintendo to point at, claim damages, then try to take.

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 50 points 3 months ago

My understanding is the media and projectors are heavily tied together with strict DRM. This is why you see cams with direct audio hookups, but not direct video rips

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 43 points 5 months ago

FileZilla isn't even that old school, cuteftp was the OG one afaik.

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 54 points 5 months ago

Eh, more like average.

Bonus fact: Fiat, apparently, didn’t learn its lesson from the 1994 stalker note debacle — at least not immediately, or, perhaps, not internationally. In 2016, Fiat Argentina gave new car owners “a car manual which refers to women as ‘co-pilots’ and men as ‘alpha males’” while also “featur[ing] comments on women’s legs and the length of their skirts,” according to the BBC.

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 52 points 8 months ago

I can tell you that for lemmy.ca we use 778gb

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 54 points 9 months ago

Maybe if slack didn't have an SSO tax, it wouldn't be an issue.

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 49 points 9 months ago

Huh? 22 years is life? That's like 1/4 of a life.

Not advocating either way, just confused.

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 47 points 10 months ago

Good for them, sounds like they approached it constructively and it's helping.

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 55 points 11 months ago

Alt tabbed once too many times, clicked drop database, clicked yes. Realized what I'd done and panicked.

Deleted the user db for the east coast auth server for the game America's Army: Operations. Thankfully it was the secondary so we just redid replication.

[-] Shadow@lemmy.ca 43 points 1 year ago

Yeah our DB dropped from about 35gb to 8gb!

Sorry about that! Service ran out of memory for some reason and I took some time to investigate.

Edit: Going to take a second hit, rebooting again to roll back a kernel upgrade that was applied yesterday.

Edit2: It's fixed properly now.

Hello everyone!

We'll be having a brief maintenance window on Saturday at 11:30AM Pacific Time, should be under 30 minutes.

I'll be applying OS updates, cranking up the kernel nofile limits and probably some memory / swappiness tweaks.

Hello everyone!

I figured a daily thread is too much for our small community, but since people are subscribing let's get this started!

We're hitting a bug that is causing the database to be locked when some users try to delete their accounts.

I've temporarily disabled account deletion until this is resolved.

Lemmy.ca status page (status.lemmy.ca)

Hi All!

I've created a status page for lemmy.ca available at https://status.lemmy.ca/

The uptime bar and response times graph at the top are automatically populated, with the details below manually added.

I'll try to keep this up to date with smaller changes that might not be worthy of a post to this community.

Hi Everyone!

Not that there's anything wrong with the maple leaf, but I feel like we could use a better logo that is a little more lemmy themed.

Any of the more artisticly inclined folks like to help us out with a new logo?

This is starting to feel like a regular thing, but we're now on 0.18.2.

Release notes are here - https://join-lemmy.org/news/2023-07-11_-_Lemmy_Release_v0.18.2

Do people value me posting this each time we upgrade? Should I continue? Edit: answer is yes!

Heads up that we've bumped the UI up to 0.18.2-rc.1, which should resolve the current exploit that was seen on lemmy.world.

We've also logged out all currently logged in users as part of it, so you'll need to login again.

Hello everyone!

Just a quick heads up that we've applied the upgrade to 0.18.1 which resolves a lot of performance and federation issues.

Let us know if you run into any new problems!
