I'm posting because originally when I was looking to create a Lemmy account I came across Hexbear. I read the code of conduct and TOS and to me it seemed like a great fit for me. However, after creating an account there, it seems pretty defederated.

Anyway I was curious on the happenings over there, because they have some cute custom emojis over there... but if there's a reason they're so defederated, I might just pretend i never made an account there

EDIT: omg I just found out this instance has cute blob emojis too :3 ablobcatrave

They are tankies. They like China and Russia because they're supposedly communist and ignore all the human rights violations.

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's hilarious, because no good communist would call Russia and the CCP communism.

[–] Khlo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I was thinking to myself isn't Russia today decidedly not communism

[–] kuato@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It’s not, and literally no one on those instances thinks that it is.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago (3 children)

They defend it to their dying breath though

[–] kuato@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Show me one single example of it, then. You can’t, because they don’t.

Literally no one thinks post-1991 Russia is communist. Show me a single example.

[–] will_steal_your_username@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

True but I've also seen quite a few ml users defend russia invading ukraine and calling ukrainians vermin etc

Edit: That is to say, it's easy to think they think russia is communist when they celebrate them killing civilians as some sort of victory against imperialism

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

More "Insist the human rights violations are capitalist/western/CIA propaganda used to fuel a culture war". Which like yeah, the most effective propaganda is the truth and all that...

Hexbear, Lemmygrad, .ml are all part of the Tankie Triad. The real rules are all unwritten and you'll never know them till your posts get removed and you're banned

Their support for trans is paper thin at best, this is what Nutomic, head dev, biggest Tankie and lead admin of .ml has to say about the trans community

[–] recursive_recursion@lemmy.ca 41 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Lemmy.ml, lemmygrad, and hexbear are the 3 most well known instances to house pro CCP and Putin loyalists

I'd recommend just blocking those 3 as you'll generally have a better time on the fediverse.

If you check !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com you'll find that the moderators themselves are the reasons why those instances are toxic

[–] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 1 month ago

Ok, this isn't really blahaj related and I think it has run its course.

[–] thezeesystem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (5 children)

I know some of the lore but people have already answered that, so give you my experience, I joined it see what it's like, I reported something that broke there ToS, I was then thrown on a community called "dunk tank" or something like that.

I was new to lemmy and it said in what I thought messages was that I got a message and then I responded to it

Apparently it's against that community rules to respond to it

I was permanently banned

So, yeah hexbear is capitalist bootlickers who mask them selfs as communists.

Although tbh. Lemmy.world seems very capitalist loving but at least I don't get instant banned because I'm new. Never had any problems with Lemmy.ml in my experience, but also I have some problems with shit just works (or whatever its called)

[–] Edie@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago

thezeesystem

There is an account with that name on hexbear, it has a completely blank modlog, or are you talking about some other account?

Hexbear was one of the earliest servers that is now part of the fediverse. It was started after chapo trap house was banned from Reddit.

Users there realized the danger of the rich being able to shut down online leftist spaces well before the first waves of reddit exodus.

They do not put up with the slightest whiff of transphobic bullshit and moderate & ban that crap swiftly.

You may hear some weird takes on the US's global adversaries, but you won't have to put up with weird takes on the US.

Lemmy instances are all independent and all have their own rules for posting and commenting. You will find that some communities allow things you find offensive, you will find that some communities ban things you find benign, this is decentralization in action.

If you consider yourself to be a leftist, you will find friends on the "tankie instances" (I can't speak to lemmygrad, I've never interacted with them).

There are also instances that have defederated with .world, because they find it to be offensive.

Blahaj is one of the instances I generally find to be enjoyable personally.

Edit: Just wanted to add, I've had comments modded on hexbear and on .world, remember the rules of the instance you're visiting.

[–] Khlo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 month ago (6 children)

So basically they're just reaaallllyyy far left? Here's the thing, I call myself a lefty, liberal, and progressive almost interchangeably. I don't think I'd fit in there because obviously tiananmen square happened, and obviously what's happening with Uyghur people is a goddamn travesty.

On top of that, while I think on paper communism sounds nice, in practice that's not really the case.

Also, one of the things that bummed me out was losing access to cute custom emojis but I've since learned that blahaj has some blobcat, wobble

That's not really the issue. The issue is that hexbear allows and condones harassment and bullying. They also have a lot of "tankies" which are people who defend dictatorships and genocide.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

because obviously tiananmen square happened, and obviously what's happening with Uyghur people is a goddamn travesty.

That one sentence would get removed and likely a comm ban on any of the Tankie Triad. .ml would remove it under their catchall "Rule 1: Bigotry"

cute custom emojis but I’ve since learned that blahaj has some

Blahaj could have you covered on that side!

I'm not trans so I never had reason to go down this particular rabbithole, but I remember when I first I joined the platform there was some kind of commotion around Hexbear and nobody wanting to be federated with em because of their supposedly weird tankie politics. I've never seen any tangible evidence of this (insert lack of rabbithole following here), but reading the comments, there seems to be two stories and now I'm really curious what you find out here.

[–] tenchiken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 month ago

I'm not trans, but I can say that no matter the various reasons, my personal one was simple:

Everytime someone replied to one of my comments with the most asinine, absurd or just downright stupid asshole approaches, it was always hexbear.

Literally a sigh of relief when Lemmy added personal instance blocking. Immediately hit that button and never looked back.

[–] Khlo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'll report back with my findings!

[–] Sabre363@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Did a little spelunking and investigating, kinda leaning towards them all being tankies. At least in the few things I glanced at, there wasn't anything extreme or over-the-top, but they also seemed quite happy to ban a user for very minor criticisms of the Orange Cunt and the instance mods also mod a looot of communism and CCP related communities, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Toying with making an account and posting a certain controversial image just to see what happens

Hexbear is a instance run by communist that some people hate because we can be a bit loud and snarky about our politics. Super trans friendly though 👍

Edit: they are indeed heavily defederated which is why I choose to use a lemmy.ml account most of the time. I get to interact with them and most everyone else.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

^ Yea sure bud

Tankies = Authoritarian "Communists"

I can't see cm0002's post here from lemmy.ml, but I want to point out that nutomic was banned from hexbear because of those statements.

Edit: cm0002 has responded to me with bullshit, I don't care.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

I do not know who either of those people are or what statements you refer to. I stay out of most of their drama
