But Luigi will.

That's how you know it's a class war.

[–] aramova@infosec.pub 5 points 1 hour ago

Damn, guess no Health Insurance CEOs were shopping that day

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

District Attorney James Montoya said he offered the deal after a request from the majority of the families of those killed, in trying to bring this case to a close.

but luigi might

MAGA supporter on shooting: tHouGhtS aNd PrAyERs.

MAGA supporter on Tesla boycott: Domestic terrorism!

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 8 points 5 hours ago

MAGA sympathizes with the school shooter who was merely "exercising his 2nd amendment rights"

Steal a loaf of bread: straight to jail

Deny people insurance for healthcare: Rewarded in shareholders profits and stock options.

Murder low income people: Straight to for profit private prisons.

Murder a CEO from an insurance company that denied you coverage: Death Penalty.

Eat the rich.

Killing people with a spread sheet shouldn't absolve the killer but as long as it does I'm gonna get a rifle and name it Pivot Tables

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 12 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Ah, little Pivot Tables strikes agian

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 70 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

This guy gets no death penalty, for opening fire on a crowd of innocent shoppers...but shoot a CEO, and its death penalty for you.

[–] OmegaMan 18 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah. Plea deal vs trial. The only reason this guy didn't get the death penalty is because they held it over his head to force him into the plea deal. If it went to trial they would seek the death penalty for sure.

I think the larger issue is that Luigi will not be offered a deal. He will be made an example.

[–] Civil_Liberty@lemm.ee 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Luigi is not guilty, and a jury is sure to find him so.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

I have many doubts about his guilt, but the rule of law is more important than any one crime. It is better for a guilty man to get a fair trial and go free than for an innocent man to be railroaded and unjustly punished. To me, it is obvious he has not received fair or just treatment under the law. It doesn't matter to me if he is guilty or not, he should go free because the prosecution has poisoned the well.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 10 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Hell of an example if the jury says not guilty.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

How could they convict? Luigi doesn’t even look like the guy from the video. He looks like a saint to me. Not guilty!

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 hours ago

the man has 10,000 alibis in every us state and territory. sounds like reasonable doubt to me.

In Texas too!

[–] Adulated_Aspersion@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

Wait......Texas ain't gonna Texas?

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 41 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

In 2023 a federal judge convicted him to 90 consecutive life sentences, after he pleaded guilty of hate crimes and firearms violation.

Holy shit.

This might be controversial, but I'm glad he didn't get the death penalty. Not because I don't think he deserves it, but because I don't think we should have the death penalty at all.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 26 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I think this just shows the stark contrast between the upper class and the lower class. You aren't treated the same if you murder someone in a position of power.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 11 points 8 hours ago

I'm in complete agreement with you there. If Luigi Mangione gets the death penalty, we should absolutely take to the streets and riot.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 8 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

That's it. Shoot a bunch of Hispanics, get sent to a resort prison.

Shoot a rich white healthcare executive, get sent to death row.

Tips red trucker cap...m'urica.

[–] Oni_eyes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

It is a huge disparity but let's be real, no prison in Texas is a resort prison. They're already on the list of borderline humane in US standards.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 hours ago

There's FPC Bryan outside College Station, which showed up on a list of "best prisons to be sent to"...but that's a woman's only prison.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's pretty obvious. Only if the victims were rich white dudes. That's when it gets real.

[–] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's pretty obvious. Only if the victims were rich ~~white~~ ~~dudes~~. That's when it gets real.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago

Ok. Admissible. White people are officially a minority. Try, you need to be rich to matter now. I do agree with the sentiment.

If he's not getting put in protective or solitary confinement, he's eligible for A death penalty, just not THE death penalty

[–] softcat@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 hours ago

They'll probably stop by Burger King for him too.
