Grow or die. Tech’s endgame is Logan’s Run (book version), actually.

tech bros .... modern day snake oil salesmen

in the 1910s it was a fast talking showmen on a soapbox saying he can cure galloping consumption with heroin

in the 1970s we saw them as fast talking car salesmen with checkered suits

in the 2020s they'll be identified as CEOs in t-shirts and jeans

I don't think there are any real techbros on Lemmy. They have to go to the crowd to signal, which is Twitter, Linkedin, and sometimes YouTube I guess.

[–] SomeoneSomewhere@lemmy.nz 25 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Extrapolating backwards can be just as valid as extrapolating forwards.

[–] tomatoely@sh.itjust.works 3 points 17 hours ago

Tech people haven't noticed AI grow over time because it continues being slow. They've noticed continued creative use of Markov chains, though.

Every time it happens the computer is super duper smart and magical and stuff. But we've done this so many times now. Processor speeds increase > math from 1903 can be done faster > company incorporates it into everyday stuff and gets rich > people slowly realise it's not actually magic.

The first chain was literally a language model ffs and they barely had electricity.
