The cringe is unbearable. These people need serious help.

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 8 points 42 minutes ago

This is why you locally host your LLMs ☝️🤓

or just not try to use a machine to replace actual human interaction. that works too i guess.

[–] Cocopanda@lemmy.world 4 points 38 minutes ago

I use ChatGPT to update my resume. Not fill my relationship hole that was created by a cheating ex. I can pay a hooker to fill that hole over an Ai.

[–] se7enfeet@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

These people have certainly lost their minds, no?

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Tricked by evil spirits, yes.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 7 points 1 hour ago

OT but I just found interesting:

1st pic: Aidan = AI Dan, I guess that's a clever name.

2nd pic: his hand melds into her hand or phases through her wrist. She calls him Thad but suspiciously he sure looks a lot like Aidan. Is ChatGPT perhaps CheatGPT? Just asking.

Honestly, I'm a bit relieved that OpenAI is at least trying to intervene here. When I heard they backtracked and re-released 4o, alarm bells went off for me that they were going to give in and just rake in profit off this type of dangerous AI addiction. Sounds like at least some of that original non-profit "managing the future of AI" concern is still there, if obviously far less than I'd like.

[–] BodilessGaze@sh.itjust.works 2 points 47 minutes ago

But how would they rake in profits? These people are only paying $200/month at most, and OpenAI has already said they're losing money on Pro subscribers due to the cost of running those models. I don't see how OpenAI is going to become profitable off the consumer market alone, which means they have to focus on the business market. These AI addicts are a dangerous distraction to them, because not only are they losing money the more that susbscribe, but they're also getting bad publicity and attracting attention from regulators. That could scare off their actual cash cows (enterprise companies).

I guess it is better than sending your 401K and life savings in crypto to your "lover" in Nigeria.

[–] Part4@infosec.pub 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I can't see how ClankHumping can ever be healthy.

[–] admin@lemmy.today 2 points 57 minutes ago

Did I just witness the birth of a new word?

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 11 points 4 hours ago

So good to know I'm not at the bottom. At least I'm not getting a "take care ok?" froma fucking AI

[–] alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 hours ago

[–] Ilixtze@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 hours ago

That ChatCBT-shaped hole in my soul.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 17 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The throughline of all 2025 news is that people don’t want anything to do with people anymore.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Have you met people? They suck!

[–] admin@lemmy.today 1 points 55 minutes ago

No they don't, people are good it's the corporate who are creating the perception for their own greed.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 50 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Deciding to "date" a chat bot from a multibillion dollar company is quite the choice

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Right up there with the Japanese guys who "marry" anime characters.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 minutes ago

Or anyone in general

[–] BreadstickNinja@lemmy.world 18 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

How long will it take them to realize they'd be so much happier with something more down-to-earth? A real bot-next-door. Local, if you will.

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 10 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Sinners! Robosexuality is an abomination!

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 10 points 6 hours ago

It's a Futurama reference for anyone who didn't get it and won't click the link.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 58 points 9 hours ago (12 children)

It’s extremely narcissistic no? To be that close with a machine that just constantly panders to you and where every conversation is about you?

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I... don't think thats the best explanation.

I've been feeling lonely myself lately.

I can see how an app that just says nice things to you could be a kind of salve.

In the same way that watching porn can fulfil a very human need, I think a chat bot can also do that.

I guess it can be a machine designed to stimulate specific emotions.

[–] danzabia@infosec.pub 1 points 21 minutes ago

The entshitification of relationships?

[–] jnod4@lemmy.ca 21 points 9 hours ago

Good, less narcissistics in the dating pool?

I tried to use chatgpt as a companion, but it's so fake. It just tells you want you want to hear.
There is no give and take, it won't call you on your bullshit.

I guess it wasn't the emotional connection I was after. If I was using it, however, next time I am in a real relationship I will have built up a lot of toxic habits.

[–] danzabia@infosec.pub 1 points 20 minutes ago

I guess it'll only be a matter of time, friend.

This is straight up mental illness. Yes, on the surface, it's ultra cringe but scratch a single layer deep and you already arrive at mental illness and it goes so much deeper from there.

Its easy to laugh at these people (it's kinda hard not to) but this is severe and untreated mental illness. It's way more serious than what it may deem at a glance. I hope this lady gets the help she needs.

[–] danzabia@infosec.pub 1 points 18 minutes ago

There's certainly some mental illness around, especially on this topic. However it's also important to consider what if it isn't? AI companions are projected to be a huge market, and I'll be damned if a kid didn't develop a strong emotional bond to a companion it grows up with.

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Also why they all look like white jesus? They must have beautiful reborn babies

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 65 points 12 hours ago

I dont think this is cringe and im not laughing this is deeply saddening for me to read.
