Has it been confirmed to actually have been a drone or even an attack? The video from the ship itself just looks like it could have been a minor accident where a fire got started.

I also saw the video and it was shockingly anti-climactic.

I’m predisposed to believe Israel would do something to stop them but also … I’d expect them to do something not so easily caught on a camera. It DID kinda look like one of those thermite dropping drones they have in Ukraine … just small and for a split second.

I’d love to see better footage and more details tbh.

Is Greta becoming a martyr for the cause knowing full well white people will only care if they kill one of their own? Goddamn. 😔

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 points 5 days ago

I dont think majority of people care about Greta. White people wont give a single fuck unless they already cared about Greta's floatila thing.

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Will they care about a climate activist, though? I know too many people who would applaud her disappearance.

I get the impression that she's just doing what she thinks is right, and that the reason she is doing it is because she can.

It is right. Ayaya, poor Greta will suffer in this life when she could be living large and easy in Northern Europe but, if my religious beliefs are true, she will be rewarded for it in the next one. Personally, I'm too cowardly and selfish to do any of the things Greta has been up to.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is an interesting schtick.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

For better or for worse I do post here in full honesty, and if you knew me IRL you'd understand I am indeed a very yappy religious man, lol.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

You do you.

[–] runblack@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I might have met you in Rotterdam.

No, I think you met another annoying monotheist. 😅

Americans are okay with their own children being shot in schools. They are hardly going to give a shit about a woke communist Yurpean trying to prevent a genocide.

[–] Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Most Americans I know are furious over the genocide but entirely powerless to stop it.

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 6 days ago

I wish I could say that. I'm in a deep red area, and at best I get mild indifference, and many are near-to masturbating over the glory of israel, god's chosen people.

[–] bigFab@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Nah, most see her as a rebel uneducated teen and the others don't even know her. Her death won't make any difference, because EU already condemned the flotilla, virtually signing her murder.

Rachel Corrie didn't manage to change much.

Every bit helps? Sadly, I didn't even know about Mme Corrie, but maybe Greta's effort will have more reach? Gotta stay hopeful!

Israelis bombing boats? What is this, June 8, 1967?

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 6 days ago

No, no, they're not strafing boats with gunfire for over an hour yet.

Tunisia’s national guard said their investigation was ongoing but “no drones have been detected”. “According to preliminary findings, a fire broke out in the life jackets on board a ship anchored 50 miles from the port of Sidi Bou Said, Houcem Eddine Jebabli, a spokesperson for the national guard was quoted by AFP news agency as saying.

The Tunisian authorities suggested that the fire might have been caused by a cigarette.

I don't trust Israel or the Tunisian authorities, but we should be very careful with accusations until we get real prove

The people on the flotilla are the ones who said they saw the drone, while they were anchored 80 km from port. I don't see how authorities could so confidently dispute something they weren't there to see. There's also video from the ships, but considering it was at night, I doubt it's very illuminating. I don't see how the authorities could already have evidence better than what the flotilla has shared, plus they also have incentive to bury the story.

I'm defaulting to believing the people opposed to the genocidal state unless I'm given compelling reason not to. I would be willing to be proven wrong, but the excuses so far are weak.

Moments before the cigarette landed on the life jackets

Have you thought about the size of that flame looks more like of a cuban cigar? 🙄

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

I too smoke literal tree trunks

wHaT ya MeAn bRuh?.... Literallyy a bOmB!

This BBC article is what I found on the topic.

The organizer claims a drone set fire to one of the boats while in a tunisian harbor. Tunisian authorities deny any drone was found, but the investigations are still ongoing. So... eh?

Thanks!

Look how far Tunisia is from Israel:

map

If the drone turns out to have been of Israeli origin - which, let's face it, is very likely, possibly even officially - that's the very definition of impunity. An impunity supported and encouraged by the EU and the USA...

Yeah OP, you can't just paste a picture and not give us the source, wtf

[–] Nomad@infosec.pub 1 points 1 week ago

Well it's not just a picture though. It was breaking news for me and i had nor yet seen the articles. Could be a fake information not, no? Or ragebait.

Memes have truly ruined the internet

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Memes may have ruined the human brain, but now it is the only way to get through to some people who won't even bother reading a headline. The Internet has ruined the Internet. As soon as the Internet became so easy to use that even the elderly and incompetent could use it, it was destined to become a cesspool. That's what I like about lemmy, is that there is a (small) barrier to entry. Enough of a barrier to keep a lot of those people from bothering.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

"Meme culture" specifically made the Internet a worse place, the memes are just the weapon.

Meme communities aren't about sharing memes, they're just a numbers game. They all have the same unoriginal content but they're in a race to have the most of it.

This encourages people to "make" more memes using the same template. The same joke over and over and over. Like if a tv show gets a cute character you will see the same 5 meme templates about it every single time.

Meme culture rewards repetition, not originality. It rewards spamming crappy edits of someone else's joke to as many sites as possible. It fills the Internet with garbage, pushing away anything worth looking at. Memes are effectively Internet cancer
