Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s conspiracy theories, vitriolic language, and xenophobia have made her a darling of the right and a pariah on the left—and now, she’s gained admiration from Russian state television.

Greene’s attempts to block aid to Ukraine, her criticisms of NATO, and her beliefs that the United States should withdraw from the alliance have drawn plaudits from TV hosts in Russia, The Daily Beast reported Friday.

I'm not sure she's a literal traitor but she is definitely a useful idiot.

[-] idiomaddict@feddit.de 51 points 6 months ago

Yeah, I honestly think she’s dumb enough to do it for free

[-] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 13 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Exactly. I think it's just in her own short term interest, and that happens to align with foreign governments.

You guys sound like youre making cover for mtg. She's a ghoul.

[-] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

That's definitely not my intention. I agree that her actions are fucking mental.

[-] idiomaddict@feddit.de 4 points 6 months ago

I don’t think it’s a cover to be stupid and malicious when you don’t need to be. She’s obviously a ghoul, just the dumbest one I’ve ever heard of

[-] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

She makes a lot of money off the stock market. She's in it for the money. Hate and anger sells.

[-] remotelove@lemmy.ca 24 points 6 months ago

If she is promoting Kremlin propaganda, she is a traitor, IMHO. Unfortunately, she is likely protected under the first amendment.

She is so fucking stupid, she probably isn't getting paid to say the things she does. People like that already have a twisted sense of patriotism so she likely believes the horseshit she spews.

[-] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

I understand that viewpoint, and I'm not saying she's any less of a problem just because I'm not willing to state that she's a literal traitor. She's obviously doing what she's doing, regardless of her reasons.

[-] remotelove@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 months ago

Being a traitor an odd thing to try and define in this case. She really couldn't be considered the ringleader in distributing misinformation and we probably can't get proof of any bribery. If anything, she is a victim of state sponsored propaganda. "Victim" is probably too strong of a word here, but it's possible.

Regardless, the Dunning-Kruger effect is in full force with that one. If she is commiting crimes, she probably isn't aware of it.

I think our differences in views can be explained by my belief that propaganda is a legitimate weapon. (That could probably be debated until the end of time, unfortunately.)

[-] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

I do also believe that propaganda is a weapon. I just don't know whether she's doing what she's doing in the service of anything but her own stupidity. There is, however, no questioning the fact that whatever the case she is useful to foreign interests. Something which shouldn't be taken lightly no matter what category we put her into.

This is the Congressional Oath of Office she would have had to take at swearing in:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

The only difference here is that a useful idiot hasn’t been used yet.

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

makes me respect the gold bar senator bit more when its framed this way. If you're going to support a foreign country you could at least have the self respect to get paid.

[-] uberdroog@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

She reminds me of my mother. She can't be wrong.

[-] silver13@lemmy.world 52 points 6 months ago

Its so incredibly obvious that Putin supports everything that will weaken USA/EU/NATO-"The West" in the long run, economically, politically, you name it. Everything that will disassemble these systems, make them more vulnerable to corruption, reduces the trust people have in them. How the hell do these ultra-"patriotic" right wingers not see this while Putin is so clear and outspoken about it?

[-] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 6 months ago

Some of them put their hands over their eyes, some squint a lot, others though stare into the headlights of the oncoming train.

[-] jkrtn@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 months ago

To answer your rhetorical question, because they are selling our country for a pittance. Look at this abomination's net worth before and after she is elected.

[-] Jaysyn@kbin.social 42 points 6 months ago

Of course they do. They all work for the same boss.

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 36 points 6 months ago

Rather than trying to turn the US into Russia 2.0, maybe she should just move to Russia and live the dream.

[-] Dreizehn@kbin.social 20 points 6 months ago

Give the fucking traitor, Greene, a one-way ticket to Muscoviteville and she can take the damn MAGATs with her.

[-] jobby@lemmy.today 15 points 6 months ago

A nice prison cell awaits when her finances get brought to light.

[-] eran_morad@lemmy.world 14 points 6 months ago

Useful sub-idiot.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 13 points 6 months ago

Haha, that was my guess even I saw the synopsis up there.

I've been saying the repubs are a fifth column for many, many years - even before Dozo the Clown came along and brought terrorists like Marj along with him. Even before they started using Putin shirtless on a horse as avatars (unironically).

And now it's right out there in the open. The cons HATE this country. Many have been able to see this for decades; now there is no hiding it.

[-] kikutwo@lemmy.world 12 points 6 months ago

Pig fucking conventions?

[-] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 12 points 6 months ago

That’s taking the term“useful idiot” somewhat more literally than usual

[-] LittleBorat2@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 months ago

On Russian TV they said that she is very heterosexual and wears fur coats. I have no idea wtf this is supposed to mean.

[-] just_another_person@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

Up her own asshole? Didn't think this was news, nor sudden.
