They have literally taken charlie kirks death and used it as a means to attack left leaning people from all walks of life.

  • This is a full blown government takeover of the American media
  • They're forcing left leaning people out of their jobs in almost every industry.

And what makes this even worse is that it is so blatantly obvious that the info surrounding kirks shooter is almost a complete invention of the trump administration. The ridiculous bullets. The note that magically disappeared. The text messages that sound as if they were written by a 55 year old....

This country is so good and truly fucked. It just so depressing and sad. And even more depressing because it seems like no one is really even trying to fight back.

[–] PlagueShip@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

It's almost like you have to fight for your rights. The pacifist party is never going to do that, so wave goodbye..

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 176 points 3 days ago (28 children)

another "let's set some arbitrary line down the road to avoid doing anything today"

you already live under a fascist regime you cowards... DO SOMTHING! take action NOW

[–] zewm@lemmy.world 47 points 3 days ago (6 children)

You decide to take action. Please roll for initiative.

rolls 1

You slip and fall on banana peel. You ran out of action points.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 17 points 3 days ago (6 children)

What a strange mix of RPG tropes. I get what you meant but that's like when you see "hacking" on tv.

And what action would you like to take?

[–] notabot@piefed.social 39 points 3 days ago (6 children)

Long lasting general strikes and boycots would be an effective tool. I realize they would be painful, or even impossible, for people to support themselves through in many cases, whuch is why things like mutual aid and strike funds need to be set up first.

Most disappointing line in the sand ever.

Ten years ago was the time to flip out about fascism. I can't believe some people are still telling us "wait for it...!"

[–] oddlyqueer@lemmy.ml 138 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the best time to flip out about fascism is ten years ago. Second best time is today.

[–] AgentOrangesicle@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

This is what we need to hear. Not condescension for inaction, but a call to continuously move forward with protest, unification, and unwaveringly loud "fuck you"s to the administration that's trying to kill us.

[–] Khanzarate@lemmy.world 63 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Tweet was from last year. It's saying "it's time"

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago

Oh! Hah, I completely overlooked the timestamp. I never did twitter or bsky, micro blogging feels as opaque and pointless to me as Discord does to ...well, most people.

The US has always been fascist, since Manifest Destiny up to and after WWII. Fascism is just now turning inward towards the people who never thought they'd see this end of the stick.

Still, despite all the hatred and forces pushing us apart and pinning us down, this is our opportunity to restructure the country and make reparations to those we've wronged.

Have radical optimism in the face of radical hatred.

I really appreciate this remark but I think it kind of leaves something out, among the hopeful message.

I think America is actually experiencing the greatest theft of wealth, being transferred AWAY from the middle- and lower- classes, TO the ruling Elite.

I see people dancing up and down on leopards ate my face, just as one random example... But the short-term mockery misses the long-term pain under which we will all suffer.

There are farmers who love Trump who are going to lose their farms, when they are purchased by large conglomerates, after their overseas markets were intentionally destroyed with tariffs. The last thing this world needs is more Monsanto-esque food control.

There are huge swaths of US tourist properties that are going up for fire sale in the next couple years. All of that land is going to be stolen because no one can/will visit. Although tourism is a huge industry, it's still highly competitive and the margins are razor thin. Most tourist destinations will not be able to weather the storm.

Manufacturing, agriculture, travel... like.... I could just make a list of so many lives that businesses that are going to be destroyed. And there's fatcats just waiting to strike and steal what they have built, for pennies on the dollar.

America is in a massive crisis right now. People are so busy focusing on mockery and schadenfreude and identity politics, there's not a lot of talk about what's actually going on in the bigger picture!

All of America's wealth is being stolen. Every citizen is having their generational wealth swindled from under them. Even if there's not a direct loss one could point to, massive inflation has horrendously deflated a century of citizens' wealth building. Families have been set back generations, even if the course is reversed. Reproductive rights are almost gone. Bump more children out with less ability to feed them, more slaves.

It's such a dire situation and people aren't grasping the scope of it. It freaks me the hell out.

Canary? The tunnels are collapsing

[–] Corelli_III@midwest.social 60 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Bloomberg Opinion Section: "Total Tunnel Collapse Could be a Sign of Tunnel Instability"

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Why repairing the tunnels would be devastating for the prosthetics industries around the mines."

The "he was fired for talking about Charlie Kirk" narrative is a lie.

He was talking mostly about the Epstein Files.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 86 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He was fired because that was the plan when Colbert was fired. They literally said he was next.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Okay but why in that way - during the taping of a show? That doesn't seem very "planned". That seems like a desperate rush.

Over the weekend would have been smoother. Hell, just about any other way would have been smoother.

They gave Colbert another year.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 60 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Someone in the administration (not Trump obviously) is smart enough to know to strike while the iron is hot. Use the Charlie Kirk killing to justify all kinds of shit that they want to do anyway while they have an angry army of supporters to shout down anyone who dares to speak up against their actions.

They were always going to declare antifa a "terrorist organization." They were always going to come after Kimmel. They were always going to put democrats on lists to be investigated. The MAGA anger over Kirk's killing just gave them the opportunity to speed up the timeline and they couldn't let it go to waste.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I still say it was about THE EPSTEIN FILES and not the nazi that the other nazi shot.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 28 points 3 days ago

Partially yes. But I'm positive that they were looking for their own Reichstag fire and found it in the Kirk killing.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 38 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Colbert getting canned was a test. They saw they could get away with it, so now gloves are off and off Kimmel goes in one night.

Everything they do is a test to see if they can get away with something. If they do, they ratchet up to the next horrendous idea.

Dude, your "canary" is decomposing at the bottom of a gas-flooded mine. That ship sailed months ago.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago

Minors certainly aren't.

The tweet was from last year.

So they're doing pretty good, all things considered.

The canary is very dead.

Right? We've had a flock of canaries go in and never come out. Let's be frank it's been a long time coming:

  • Kimmel
  • Noem v Vasquez Perdomo
  • DC
  • Colbert
  • PBS
  • NPR
  • Roe
  • Affirmative action
  • Net neutrality
  • Citizens United
  • The Patriot Act

At some point we gotta stop thinking they will ever come out.

[–] annoyinglyfish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 39 points 3 days ago (2 children)

i've noticed something not so funny about when facism gets called out in the mainstream; out loudly enough to be heard. Seemingly, its usually only when it starts to inconvenience cishet ablebodied white people.

[–] invertedspear@lemmy.zip 22 points 3 days ago

Until then it’s just sparkling authoritarianism.

inb4 those fired show hosts start their YouTube channels and air their shows there. A Lithuanian journalist has been doing it for 10 years now and so can they.

[–] CaptnNMorgan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Someone else made a good point about that on a different thread; they brought up the fact that youtube revenue wouldn't be able to support his staff and writers.

Maybe he could do a show on YouTube, but it would have to be very different and it would still leave a lot of folks jobless.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago

Google can just as easily be squeezed and threatened by Trump to take-down any youtubers they don't like

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And when that canary croaks, it'll be another. And another and another, so long as we don't have to get up off our asses and stamp out these evil fuckers and undo their shit

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 10 points 2 days ago

It's not that easy though. We are at the conclusion of a decades long campaign to poison not just our government and politics, but our society as well. Take out every fascist tonight, and we still have to contend with the fact that, as a people, we are no longer capable of operating a democracy. Healing the divides and fixing generations of indoctrination takes time we don't have.

I'm not saying there is no hope, but we have to sober about the tasks ahead of us if this country is ever going to heal.

Pretty wild how when Jimmy Kimmel left the Man Show, he was replaced by rogan.

There is only one thing we can do.

Make it about Epstein 24/7. Write his name on the walls and shout it in the streets.
