The renderings are complete, the architects and contractors have been hired. After at least 15 years of talking about it, President Trump is building a ballroom at the White House. According to the White House, the work will begin this September, with a price tag of $200 million.

"President Trump is a builder at heart and has an extraordinary eye for detail," said White House chief of staff Susie Wiles in a statement on Thursday. "The President and the Trump White House are fully committed to working with the appropriate organizations to preserving the special history of the White House while building a beautiful ballroom that can be enjoyed by future Administrations and generations of Americans to come."

According to the article the president offhandedly suggested that a ballroom be built by his company around 15 years ago, and whoever he suggested it to correctly ignored this idiotic idea. So basically he's going to spend $200 million dollars of tax payer money building a ballroom where one already exists as an act of exceedingly petty revenge because someone hurt his precious delicate feelings over a decade ago.

Seems pretty on brand

Jesus fucking christ $200 million for a fucking room to dance in?

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 21 points 2 weeks ago

He'll also hold teen pageants with change rooms he can barge into.

[–] ClownStatue@piefed.social 14 points 2 weeks ago

Probably more like $90 mil to build the room. &110 for the _privilege _ to build it.

[–] FeloniousPunk@lemmy.today 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And the fucker can’t even dance!

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

That's the total after accounting for all of the graft.

Petty revenge and siphoning off taxpayer money. Two birds, one stone.

[–] Mbourgon@lemmy.world 46 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There already IS a ballroom in there, it’s just not very large. And watch him hire companies he gets kickbacks from.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, I too read the article preview.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@midwest.social 40 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Wasn't he just bitching about the Fed wasting money on pointless crap like this? Typical Trump hypocrisy.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

She said the cost would be footed by Trump himself as well as "other patriot donors." Leavitt said construction would finish "long before" the end of Trump's term.

So since they made a point to say that, I can only assume it will really be paid for by tax dollars, and Trump's friends will get all the no-bid contracts....

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

And he’s could die any minute, well before construction is complete.

[–] sulgoth@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

He doesn't see it as a waste, it's for him after all.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Who fucking cares, they do this constantly. Stop wasting time caring about their blatant hypocrisy. They literally could not care less.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@midwest.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

I can assure you this barely registers as a blip on my Give-a-Shitometer. What's it to you if it did? What compelled you to reply to my comment?

[–] als@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 2 weeks ago

Still a kiddie fucker

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He's going to be so disappointed when he realizes that a ball room is not the same as a ball pit.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 18 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Don't worry, there's a backup plan...

[–] llii@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 weeks ago

I recognize this ball pit.

[–] CobblerScholar@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd wait on the remodel until after our Canadian friends finally burn it down again

[–] kelpie_returns@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Again? I don't think I've heard this one before. Can I get some context?

[–] kalpol@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

War of 1812, but I believe it was the British

[–] jqubed@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Canada was still part of the British empire at the time, but looking at Wikipedia the British regiments were all actually raised and based in the British isles, so I’m not sure where the idea that they were Canadians came from. I’ve heard several times that the troops that burned Washington were of Canadian origin, usually proudly related by Canadians, and just assumed that was correct since my history classes usually didn’t spend much time on that war. It does look like at least some of the attack was in retaliation for American burnings and lootings of York and Port Dover in what was then Upper Canada, so maybe that’s where the idea comes from.

Ballrooms are for kings, not presidents.

Ballrooms are for people with balls.

TACO

[–] manualoverride@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

When developers asked the White House if they required a dickroom to go with the new ballroom, they were told that was not required as the Oval Office was serving as the dickroom for the next three years.

Plus you can hide a button mushroom basically anywhere.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 17 points 2 weeks ago

That headline could have been a LOT worse. Any sentence that contains “Trump's dream of _______ is becoming a reality” should fill us all with dread.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago

Could Trump please not permanently fuck with things that aren't his?

[–] GenesisClimber@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Is this so he can continue on with his Ms. Teen America Pageantry, but marry it with some southern debutante ball where he and the old rich guys will exchange the daughters/contestants to the highest bidders? Or does he just want a place to dance and show off his fancy high heels?

[–] Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Pavidus@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

The same people paying to completely disassemble and rebuild his fancy jet. Taxpayers.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Trump [...] ~~has an extraordinary eye for detail~~ has the tacky taste of a Florida grandma from the 90s who won money on some scratchers.

Why hasn't this traitor been hanged yet?

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

[–] ZeffSyde@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

What contractor would even consider doing anything for this shitty tasteless moneypit of a sub human? He never posts his bills.

Even when he has access to public funds to pay for his horrible ideas, nobody gets paid but he and his chronies.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

his chronies.

Said it yerself,
