This doesn’t work. (The prevention of boiling over, the steaming of the wood really does work great)

As soon as the spoon gets wet enough from the boiling over liquid the surface tension of the liquid is unaffected by the spoon and it will boil right over. Might give you a few seconds extra to catch it, but that’s about it.

Source: me. Tried this silly trick and ended up with a wet stovetop. Right up there with the other useless kitchen hacks like the hole in the pot being meant as a stir spoon holder. No, it’s not. It’s just a hole that some “life hacker” stuck a spoon in and told everyone that this is what it was for to get clicks.

[-] EmoDuck@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 year ago

You don't know what you're talking about. I've been pot boiling wooden spoon for ages now and I always steam pot spoon stoping the water

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

No, no.. I agree with the part spoon steam, not the over steam boil part.

[-] liara@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago

If you think that's silly then you should see all the people praising a woman for putting an ice cube in a pot to the same effect.

Sure it stopped the water from boiling over, it also stopped the water boiling at all.

[-] SonicBlue03@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago

This must be the pot talking.

[-] Broodjefissa@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I think rather the spoon steam wood

[-] kubica@kbin.social 12 points 1 year ago

[-] PeterPoopshit@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Didn't work. I followed the instructions carefully and now my dick is stuck in the ceiling fan. Maybe it matters what type of wood the spoon is made out of.

[-] outer_spec@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 year ago

man hand hook car door

[-] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Spoon wood pot boiling water spoon pot.

I see youve met my wife. I don't know how many times I've found our wooden spoons blackened and charred after she stirs shit then leaves it resting on the rim of the skillet rather than utensil spoon right next to the oven on the counter...

[-] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I too have burned water.

[-] MildlyArdvark@feddit.dk 2 points 1 year ago

Yes but why though?

[-] MasterNerd@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago
